Were have a bunch of indoor cats. They shed a bunch espicially this time of year. The fine fluff and junk that they and the fans kick up will dust up our house in a week after we clean. We use the Highest dollar filters we can get from walmart as well in the AC. Do any of you have the Ionic breeze or similar filter. Does it work? Does it remove fine air born hairs? Not the kind that are heavy and sometimes get in the air but float back to the floor and make the hair "bunnies" as i call them, there easy to maintain with the swifter. We want something to supplement at least in the bedroom for particulate removal. This can even be one of those hepa filters from lowes, those are pricey though.

Had one, In my opinion all it did was make ozone, which is NOT good for you or your vinyl/rubber products for that matter.. got rid of it pronto.
my 2 centavos.

They are negative ion generators which produce ozone. Ozone does 'freshen' the air since it's an oxidizer. They attract fine dust and soot to the filter and all surfaces near the filter

Yes what you want is a HEPA filter, and the bigger the better

Consumer reports did a study and based on the ozone output did NOT recommend that type of filter at all..

We bought a Hunter Perma-filter Air Filter (has a permanent hepa type filter, model 30547) that was rated #1 by consumer reports that works well with our cats.. We got it on clearance at Lowes a while back..

Best aircleaner hands down is the ORECK.. Superior technology using magnetic force vs filter. Just wash under facette. HEPA requires frequent filter purchase and is expensive. Understand cats have dander and it is sticky and not airborne. The only way to protect against cat allergies is out side only period.

This site doesn't have much good to say about ORECK. They do say right up front that "This information is brought to you by Absolute Air Cleaners and Purifiers Inc." so they make no pretense that they are an independent reviewer or anything. I just did an online check and found the Oreck XL Tabletop Professional Air Purifier cost $460  and by the looks of it, it is indeed about the size of a shoebox. Makes you wonder why they use "XL" in their name for it.

I think the information in the link is correct even if it is from a competitor.

I have had my Sharper Image Ionic Breeze units for several years(8-9). YES they do remove gases, odors, smoke, and tiny particulates to some degree. We have a large one and smaller one. When we smoked cigarettes, stopped a year ago, THANK YOU GOD, it did a good job of removing the smoke and odor. They do a poor job of removing pet hair and larger dust particles.
YES, they are easy to clean and have zero cost after purchase. For me, I like the ozone and what it does for odors. One now permanantly resides in our Airstream and is plugged in on a fairly constant basis. The other is in a section of the house, that we use as a sun room, video editing studio, and home theatre. It is truly a dust magnet. the room has a hardwood floor with lots of shelves and MUCHO electronic equipment. We took the carpeting out and put the breeze unit back there perhaps a year ago and it is a LOT better with particulates and dust coatings.

A CARPET IS A TOTAL DUST PRODUCER>>>>>>>GET RID OF IT

My best guage is the shaft of sunlight test. Is it clean and clear when you walk through the room or do you see particulates. Typically the Ionic type units will always allow you to see the dust.

Yes, they are fairly easy to clean and have zero operating cost after purchase.

NOW, my recommendation based on experience is:

Air Purifier | HEPA Air Purifier | Home Air Purifiers | Rabbit Air

We have the bios gs unit operating for going on a couple of years. Excellent service by the folks at the company, washable filters, decent price, and FILTERS THE DUST AND PARTICULATES. Yes, it takes care of odors, automatically adjusts to conditions with different speed levels sensing the air, particulates are vastly reduced, passes the sunlight shaft test with 95% gone, removes the border collie stuff that is in the air from our 2 BC's that come in during the winter, and does a good job on the particulates and smoke from the wood stove going full blast all winter. Yes, it produces ozone if you like it; but one can turn it off.............

I can go on and on; but for me...........ITS THE WAY TO GO........I want another; but don't NEED it....................God bless.........Dennis

Thanks for te responses so far. Dis not realize ozone was no good for leather and vynal. If it wont get rid of the larger particulates and move a mass quantity of air its no good to me. Dennis the ray of sunlight test is what im going for!. I have about 450 sqft of carpet in about 2400 sqft, and its not really the area im most concerned with.

For me, I havent found over the years, any deteriorization of vinyl/leather/ from ozone from my units. Who is to say; but none for me.

The rabbitair units have 4 fan speeds and again automatically adjust themselves when they sense problems or you can set them manually. I can go on and on about this; but for me, after a lot of research before purchase and after, am truly glad I got these.......God bless.......Dennis

I have the best ionic breeze they made, and it does capture some stuff, but I can't imagine anyone being truly pleased with it. It simply cannot move much air at all, since it does not have a fan.

I cannot help much on suggesting a better one, but I would suggest you to look closely at your vacuum cleaner. Look at its characteristics, and make sure that what it vacuums up, it actually keeps. Many these days have Hepa filters, and a good vacuum will help a great deal.
