INVISIBLE FENCE TRENCHER

Put in an invisible fence in this weekend and came up with an idea that worked very well on short notice! I have a BX24 Kubota tractor with a BT601 backhoe on it. I took a tooth off my box blade and mounted it inside the 9 inch bucket I have for the back hoe. Any size bucket would work. Drilled half inch hole in the side of the bucket and mounted the tooth along one side of the bucket allowing the pressure to be held by the back of the bucket. The bolt just holds it in place. You can put a little side pressure but not a whole lot, it is designed to pull forward and dig the tooth in the ground. Can adjust the tooth by curling the bucket, will dig about 7-8 deep. I put the wire in by hand after digging the trench. I believe if you mounted a piece of PVC on the back of the tooth, added a 90 degree elbow and run the wire through it and it would bury itself. Add a holder for a spool of wire to be mounted and run down to the PVC. Pics below.

Or just only lower the one tooth on the box blade.

Reed, I read this and said "Great idea!". Then I read the negative comments and maybe I misunderstood your original post. I thought it was a great idea when you added the tooth, assuming you were still digging with the backhoe (stationary tractor). The nay-sayers seem to be thinking you dropped the tooth in the ground and then drove the tractor along. I guess that would be a bad situation. Anyway, good work on re-configuring your existing stuff to do the job, and giving us something to think about.

I used a sub soiler and welded a piece od pipe down the shank and fixed a bracket to hold the wire on top of it and it feed the wire thru just fine

I put mine in years ago with a gas sidewalk edger. The deeper you put the wire the more you have to crank up the signal to make it work. Also as a side note invest in the lightning suppressor that hooks up to the wire that goes into the ground. I blew out 4 of the units that attach to the underground wire before I found out about the lightning arrester. Never had another one go bad after that.

There is a tool that trenches, places the wire and backfills as well. Search " mini cable installer " on YouTube or google. It looks quite easy to use. Good luck!
