Well, they've bulldozed the 200 acres of orchard behind me and they're building homes on half acre sites. The township charter used to require a minimum of 2.5 acres and 200 ft of frontage to permit a new home. Turns out they changed it for the new sub. Thats not so bad, I don't mind some more neighbors, as long as they're friendly.

I can already tell that at least one of the new neigbors is not the reasonable type. My teenage daughter and two of her girlfriends were walking through the new sub, a woman who has selected one of the lots for her future home called the police to report the three girls walking on her lot. I'm not sure if the woman just happened to be in the area or if she's camped out and running surveilance.

There are currently two homes started, and apparantly one lot reserved. Good thing the fussy lady will be two streets away when the sub is complete.

I understand that the woman may have rights to the property, but it just seems a bit possesive at this time to be worried about a rough graded lot with nothing on it.

The police seemed a bit embarassed that they had to knock on my door and tell me about it. Any thoughts ?

... And your new neighbors teenagers will soon be walking in your 'vacant' back yard. But they don't mean any harm. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You might consider new fencing and signs.

BeenThereDoneThat. I just monumented my property line last week after four different encounters with strangers, who didn't know me and couldn't identify the owner of the land they crossed to get into mine.

If these are really city folks they will never be happy with those oversized lots. There is a golf course development near us that has 1 million dollar and up houses on less than quarter acre lots. They sold like hot cakes. You can pass the gray poupon from window to window. As for friendly neighbors you will probably never see most of them. They come home the garage door closes and thats the last you see of them till they leave for work the next day. I've got three huge new houses accross from me and all I ever see of them is the Volvo or Mercedes going down the street.

I am amazed how casual people are about other peoples property. My new neighbor used to drive his tractor up my driveway and across my backyard to get to his back yard because he didn't like to climb the hill. Never had the time to introduce himself of see if it was all right with us. After My wife asked him not to drive through our yard he must have discovered the 4WD lever cause he has been climbing the hill ever since. Who said that good fences make good neighbors?

I find that frequent use of my personal rifle range scares the dickens out of the city folk and they studiously avoid coming my way during their trespassing jaunts. Those who call the police are politely informed that shooting is perfectly legal and the Boondoxes own the hill.

Good call pennwalk, we have lots of those people in my little 1/3 acre subdivision. They don't even get out of their cars until the garage door is shut behind them. Especially bad in the winter when it is dark all hours except for business hours. You wouldn't even know wnyone lived there but for the headlights.

Yea, the only problem is that they will soon have more rights than you. There was an area in the woods where my buddies and I used to go 4wheeling, hunting and shooting as we were growing up in Miami. This area was right across the street from the local racetrack and concert arena. Subdivisions moved in and guess what, the concerts stopped, the races stopped, because they were disruptive. The woods were sold and sudivided soon after. Now this area looks like it has always been its own little city.

Anyhow, Ernie I have a question about your comment that the property value will drop. Dont you think it would be more valuable when you are of the few places remaining and they could subdivide it? I really dont know for sure but thats my thought. However, with eminant domain, who knows.......

As I posted in one of the other threads I live near a lake and there are more and more city people moving in all the time. There are two new sub divisions near my home. My realestate taxes are on the rise every year. The biggest problem is this is also a farming area with livestock. These city people don't understand how farming works. They complain about the noise of equipment and the smell of the livestock that was here along time before they were. They try to get ordinances against us. So far all of them have failed but I can see the day when they will pass because there is getting to more and more of them. The thing I don't understand is if I didn't like the noise and smell of a factory I would not build a new house next to it and expect it to close. These are good people they just don't have a clue what rural life is like.
