Hello Guys

Thought I'd better say hello. I've just become the owner of a very standard and original 1973/4 MF 165 with the A4-212 engine and wet brakes. I'm getting to grips with it (its quite different to the Fiats, David Browns and Zetors I grew up with), sorting out manuals and the like.

The tractor has 4200 hours on the clock, runs nice and all the important bits function as they should.

First job will be to sort out a hydraulic remote system (nothing existing except a isolator valve - and I'm not sure what it does - it seems to have 4 positions).

The 165 will be my main using tractor on my small holding (we sort of farm in conjunction/partnership with three neighbours, total acreage is a mighty 30). It'll join a 1951 Cat D2 in the shed.

Cheers - Foster

Welcome aboard and keep us updated! There are several guys here that are very knowledgable about the "older" Masseys; I'm sure they can help you out along your way!

I have a 1974 MF 165 with the perkins diesel - great old tractor - you can't kill them.

Thanks Guys

Had my first "issue" last night, had finished driving a dozen or so posts (round SWIMBO's new vegetable garden, earning valuable brownie points) and was using the three point hitch to pull a couple of old posts out when there was a "bang" and a lot of oil on the transmission case. Seems the hydraulic isolator cut over has been installed with a gasket instead of "o-rings" and the pressure had blown a corner off the gasket. Nothing major, I'll get some new "o-rings" today and should be up and running tonight.

Cheers

Tentman, it has been a while since I sat on a 165 but, think you will find that Tractor could have either factor installed remote hyd or dealership added. The dealership added required the 3 pth lift to be full raised to push the fluid to the remote system. The dealership added systems that I have seen has those valved on top of the transmission.

Yep - just sorted it all, its an aftermarket (dealership added) remote system that has been "bubba'd" with. I've now got the proper o-rings and plastic seats to install tonight.

Cheers
