I've got a DX35 that I bought with 70 hours on the meter. It has been a good tractor except for the persistent diesel fuel problems that it has. It now has 1150 hours and I have owned for about 8 years. About every 300 hours the fuel pump seems to go out (this is now the 3rd one I have installed). The tractor will show initial signs by starting to run rough. The fuel filter also does not stay full all the time and has been changed often. I have checked the delivery line and all the vent lines but there is no blockage that I can find and no leaks. I have taken the "old" pumps out and submersed them in diesel fuel and manually depressed the plunger. Interestingly they still work so the diaphram is not the problem. This most recent time I decided to look into the engine cam while I was changing the fuel pump. There appears to be almost no signs of wear on the lobe. For funnies I put a dial indicator on the cam lobe and turned the engine over. There is only 0.070 of movement!!! This seems that it is entirely to low to me. With stretching of the diaphram, I bet it can't be moving more that 50-60 thousands. With the "new" pump I just installed I hooked inlet line and cranked it over. Fuel just barely trickles out the outlet side when cranking. I am guessing about 10ml in a minute. I am now wondering if the factory may have ground the cam under specs.

Anyone seen anything like this or have any ideas of what the problem may be?????
