Growing up my dad had a 1959 International 240 gas burner. He ran it from 1975 until he replaced it in 2000 with his Kubota L2900.

I found one locally, thought it was his old one but wasn't. Hour meter doesn't work as well as other gauges. It's stuck on 2900 hours.

The guy wants $2000 for it. I know Dad bought and sold his for the same price $1100. I want to get one and fix it up for him.

Is this thing worth 2 grand and will parts be readily available? He rebuilt his 240 about 1984 but things change in 23 years. Anybody have any advice?

I know that the bulk of them all came through from the factory with two point hitch and independent pto. I'd feel that the one you looked at could be worth the money the fellow is asking and for what your dad sold his for it was a bargin..

I'm assuming that it is a 240 utility instead of the Farmall 240 row crop, correct?
The row crop is the later generation of the Farmall C, and that was one of the best ever built. I just sold a 1949 Farmall C for 2000.00 and the guy got a bargain.

It is a utility model. It has 3 pt hitch, as did Dad's. I don't know if they are modified since they only came with 2 point pitch. Paint will need to be redone as well as gauges, tires are probably 50%, not cracked or dry rotted bad but I would replace. Tractor starts and runs good, fluids appear in pretty good shape, pto ran fine without anything attached, not much slack in the shaft itself. I mentioned I saw this tractor to Dad and he didn't seem to enthused or interested that I saw it, I didn't mention I was thinking of restoring it. So I don't know if I'm going to do it or not.

Afternoon CDsdad,
I have looked at two 240 utility tractors for restore. Both were in worse shape than what your looking at ! But the price was only $1500. I personally have always been attracted to that tractor ! Just a sharp machine IMO. Many of those tractors only came through with a drawbar making a 3 pt conversion almost mandatory ! As someone else stated they were popular with a 2 pt hitch, the problem there was findind 2 pt hitch implements ! They are not exactly plentiful. Here is a pic of one I found on YT Tractors, very nice restore !
