Tractor
1986 MF 1040, 1942 Farmall A, 1949 Farmall Super A
1942 Farmall A : Prognosis wont run, will turn over...

Check the basics, gas, spark, compression all OK

Gas was getting old from none use, drain tank, fresh gas, still wont run

Saprk plugs old, may as well put new ones in, still wont run :(

Check points, pull top of mag off and clean points and regap, still wont fire

That last operation turned into my undoing, because I accidently got my timing 360 degs off

The funs not over yet !

Check spark again, seems weak and intermittent !

Battery is weak and cables are kind of shot, so new battery and cables ouch:mad:

Still wont start !

Carb starts pissing gas all over the garage floor, no problem, take the carb off the Super A. Still wont start

Then it finally dawns on me what I may have donr initially checking the points  Yep sure enough 360 off, get motor on TDC and uhohh the rotor is pointing at #4 not good. Fix that and try again, still no start  but im gettin a puff of smoke, good sign :)

Finally 4 hrs later, I realise that the choke is opposite on the Super A carb, finally success :)

Gotta love a 64 year old tractor :) :D

Had to vent !:)

Remove seat suspension from tractor.
Dismantle, clean and prep for paint.
Discover lid left off enamel reducer can. Product has evaporated.
Drive 23 miles each way to get reducer.
get out spray gun.
Mix about 2 oz. of paint.
Spray all of 45 seconds.
Spend hour cleaning up.
Decide to flip computer on.
Read something that made me realize I'm not the only one aflicted with whatever causes us to do what we do. Laugh out loud. Make dogs stare at me. (Wife's at school. I'm here by myself. Dawgs can't understand why I'm laughing and talking to myself.)

Look for flashlight. Electric goes off.

45 minutes later, power on. Message previously typed lost to eternity. Type this one.

Paint on seat frame should be dry. Back to the shop for a bit.

You did remember to put the lid back on the reducer, didn't you? That REALLY would have been a "senior" moment. But, at least the dawgs would have understood that, at least mine would have.
