I've got this JCB. Probably built around 1987 or so.

When I got it, all lights worked. Over the years, I guess they've gone out one by one and now, I only have 2-3 that work.

Had dash off and noticed that they simply twist in/out with an odd shaped bass I've never seen before. Looks like the circuit is exposed and each bulb has a contact point that when you insert/twist will tighten and hit the copper trace wires.

(never seen it done like that, not 100% sure I described it accurately)

None the less... I'd like to get a new batch of bulbs BUT, might rather get LED bulbs instead of the original.

Where would one look for something like that??

Do they look like this, if so just pull the bulb out of the holder, you can buy either incident or led which ever you prefer.

If that's what they are, they are very common, but come in at least two sizes. You should be able to find both at most auto parts stores. Also called instrument cluster lamps.

This may be a little bit different style:

A search shows LED replacements in colors.

Whoa....

So those are TWO parts? A holder and a bulb??

Never thought of that if indeed, that's the case. I presumed the entire thing was a single unit!

So, this infers, I can pull one out, take it to my local friendly auto store and see what replacement bulb choices they may have?

Really??? Might it be that easy for a change?

(quick, hurry Richard....go buy a lottery ticket!!!)

If that's indeed the bulb you have, the LED replacements are T5 (smaller size) and T10 (bigger). If you are interested in LEDs anyway.

Look for "wedge" base bulbs...

What ever number on bulb is probably for incandescent, and you will have to find conversion number for LED....

Wedge base bulb..

Most LEDS are polarity sensitive so be sure it is put into socket correct;y... If it does not light on first try, take bulb out and turn it 180° and put back in socket... Or take socket out and tunn around and re insert...

Interesting stuff.

I've got a bulb in my hand and the entire assembly appears to be one unit. I can't yet remove the bulb from the base. Then again, it's probably been in there for over 30 years so that might be an issue...

There are a few types. Some of them ARE integral units and have to be replaced as a whole. Again, auto parts stores will probably have at least the incandescents. Some may have LEDs.

Post a picture of what you have though. Maybe somebody can identify it so you can web order if you wish.

If replacing a charge warning light, replace it with the same type of bulb not an LED as it is designed to provide sufficient current flow thru the bulb to turn on the alternator.
