My new L4740 w/cab & loader is setting at the dealers; Came in without the rear remote I ordered, and I am tempted to try to install it myself, if it not to big a job. Would like appreciate any input, advise. (I did just go to Tractor Smart and fill out a form.)

Since your new tractor hasn't been delivered yet, let the dealer install it. Then it'll be under the warrenty. It's not a big job, but why DIY under these circumstances?

Unless you really need it right away, and notice I said "need" instead of "want", I'd agree with Flusher and tell the dealer to call you when it's really ready. I think it's better to have them under the impression that when you say you want something done, you won't accept it until it's done right.

I'd have the same temptation if I was in your position, and the same frustration if it didn't go well.

I'm assuming you already paid for the remote, but they're willing to give you the parts in hand when they arrive?

With the others, let the dealer do it, then any leaks are their problem not yours. I know it's like December 23rd, can't wait that extra day, but time will actually pass and you will actually get the tractor. :)

I would do it myself, so in future you know how to work on it and probably save some money. But that is just me, I would rather do stuff myself rather than letting others work on my stuff. Knowledge is power:thumbsup:

Thanks for the reply s, actually, salesman wrote the remote down on his scratch pad when we were talking, but failed to transfer it to the order, so it is not billed. Contacted him today, first thing he said was that the remote should be in Monday, ready for delivery Tuesday am, so I guess I'll let them do it. IIRC, the price was around $900 built with the tractor, hope it's not too much more having their shop do it.

I guess that's the question I'd ask him before it's done, just to confirm the installed price. Mine was about the same amount of money, pieced together from aftermarket parts. If you can get it installed for $900 including parts I'd say you've done OK.

The price I got from the dealer for them to source the parts and install it was between $1400 and $1600, which is expensive by most standards. There's no standard kit for the L3400, which was part of the problem.

If it's going to be more, you might want to remind him that it was his mistake that it didn't come that way, so why should you pay more for their mistake?

Maybe I'm more aggressive when it comes to pricing, but I like to start business the way I plan to conduct it afterwards.

My understanding is that they are dealer installed, not factory

I ordered mine also and the dealer put it on.

I would be interested in knowing what you end up doing. I would like to add a set of rear remotes to my MX5100, but wonder about the degree of difficulty, and availability of a kit. Good luck, and thanks.

Dealer installed my remotes during prep. Told me that's how they all come.
