Tractor
Mid 60's international 444 Diesel
hello. I recently inherited a couple old JD tractors. One is complete and was in the process of being rebuilt by my father. The engine was completely overhauled and ready to start. The injection pump was professoinally rebuilt. it is a 1960's 2010. I do not have the skill to finish the job. Any advice on how to proceed. The tractor is complete and should be ready for use, assuming the engine rebuild was successful. the only problem the tractor had was when it was last used approx 5 years ago, he had to use a remote cylinder on the lift because he said there was a valve that needed to be worked on, and he hadn't had the time to repair it properly, so he just used the remote cylinder. It has a 3 point lift, and 2 pto shafts. The front end is off so he could pull the engine, but is all there. There is also another old JD tractor which I know little about. It is not in great shape as it seems to have been sitting in the open for years. Does anyone have any advice on how I should proceed? The tractors are near Ada, Ok. Any help would be appreciated.

It would be best to just give them to me. :)

Hey that is axactly what I was thinking!

Since I am a 60 year old umemployed (and probably unemployable) mechanical designer with a lot of time on my hands and no money to speak of, it would be the perfect project to keep me from going any more insane:cool::cool::cool:

And to add to that, since my barn burned down and destroyed everything that was in it, I had the barn rebuilt (I am not sure why I did that) but it is now empty and I do not have the resources to put anything in it, so any free tractor stuff would be greatly appreciated:D:D:D:D:D

To be straightforward, there is a little value in the 2010 tractor if the engine rebuild was recently done and as you say successful. The dilema you have or appear to have is your lack of knowledge and ability to bring this to fruition. If you hire someone to put this tractor together you won't do much better than break even, or you can sell it cheap and wash your hands of it.

The last possibility is to go through the motions, learn about this tractor and fix it up yourself. This would net the highest resale or reward. All of this would be dependent on your interest, the person who puts this back together and is successful is the one who will reap the reward.

I can tell you this much the 2010 diesel can be a good simple tractor if taken care of and its abilities to maintain an old homeplace is something else to consider, just depends on where your heads at.

Exactly....well said. :D
I Love the little 2010's I will treat it like family and I will even will it to you since I have no one else to leave it to. ( hey I am 60 with 10 years on a quadripple bypass, and a life full of more stress than one can imagine...you won't have to wait very long to get it back......;)

When I am done with it it won't look better than new, because I don't think a tractor is supposed to look like that, but it will be mechanically 100% and it will have a little grease and a few oil stains on it.:D:D:D:D

So when do you want me to come and pick it up. My schedule is open.:D:D:D

I restored a JD 2010 gas tractor abour 9 years ago. It had a narrow front and power steering. Among JD collectors the 2010 is a step child. I had a difficult time re-selling it. Good Luck!

Gene that was a nice looking tractor, on level ground the manueverability is hard to beat. While the gas engines are good I hope for the posters sake that his is a wide front diesel, those have a little more value.

I sincerely doubt that my 2009 4520 will last as long as the older ten and twenty series tractors have. The new tractors are easier to operate with ehydro and more comfortable with cabs but for a gear tractor the 2010 and 2020 were hard to beat.
