Informal Seatbelt Survey

Do the slightly older CKs not have the little metal channel thingy beside the seat to hold the retracted seatbelt? I always put the male end back in this little holder and it never falls down or under the seat. I am trying to avoid paint damage so I always replace it this way. Maybe Kioti didn't have this black metal holder thingy on older models....?

My late2004/early 2005 CK20 does not have that feature. Wish it did. Is the thingy a separate piece that could be retrofitted?

I'll have to look more closely. When delivered, the seatbelt was "holstered" with the metal male end inserted into a black metal holder that roughly placed the spool at the same height as the female end of the buckle. I purchased this tractor about two months ago and it also has the center folding ROPS which I have noticed is a way to tell if it is the more modern version.

I bought mine in March, the folding ROPS came out shortly after or about that time I think. Mine is the one piece.

You know, guys, I would never fault anyone for using safty equipment. It's just logical if it is availabe... I dont see myself retrofitting my tractor to install said safty equipment though. For many years, tractors were run without this equipment. The operator was required to be extremely aware of his terrain and operating conditions. Manufacturers have come a long way to protect us, not a bad thing....Can we be careful, safely? I think so.... Can we get in trouble easily? yep..... If it worries you, get a new tractor with the safty equipment, it surely doesnt make you less of a man, maybe just lucky enough to justify one /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. If you feel safe on the old stuff and something happens to you, dont blame anyone else..

Hmmm, you answer questions with questions. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif What is your point? Just asking a couple simple questions.

Do you not bother with turn signals? On my land, no I do not. On the road, yes I do.

If your car has automatic daytime running lights do you disable the system? Funny you should ask. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I pulled the fuse and did disable them on my Suburban. If I want them on, I'll turn the headlights on. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Do you disable your airbag? Nope.

Do you remove the impact absorbing structural elements of your steering wheel and doors just because it was not available on the '57 Chevy or Model T?
Nope

Would you not install GFCI outlets if you were remodeling?
House already has them.

I also do not wear a helmet when riding a motorcyle. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

We could go on forever with this. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I wear it on hills, steep grades, or whenever I suspect I may be about to do something stupid!

ever been in a crash or tractor rollover? Seatbelts are a good thing if used.

One thing I want to point out:
I read a thread where someone had the ROPS up, no seatbelt and turned over. The operator was able to get out and away from the tractor, but I think that was extremely lucky. Many times, the ROPS itself will be the killer in a rollover without belt.
Once again, the rule of thumb is ROPS up with seatbelt. No ROPS, no seatbelt.
Everyone should keep in mind that if they have the ROPS folded and the tractor starts to go over, the ROPS may flop into the up position just in time to take your head off!! No ROPS means NO ROPS. If you have one, it should be up and belt on.

I don't wear my seat belt but should, I managed to hit a dip in the road that is nothing in a car but at wide open in a tractor hauling a haybine it caused me to lauch off the seat and smash my head on the roof of the cab and window.

Luckily I stayed on the road and got off with a really sore neck the rest of the week.
