I just purchased a massey ferguoson dirt scoop. I was wondering if any body has any info on where parts are availible or have a parts or orners manual for it.

This thing i think is at least 30 years old and is model NA-1.

Here are some links to my album here on TBN. Read the captions. The first ones are of the spring that was on it, it would not really catch the bar and did not allow it to reset once placed back on the ground after say a dump. that metal sleeve on the lever looks like piece of pto shaft? The other thing is( i have not had a full scoop of dirt) but the pan seems once tripped that it wants to tip the wrong way not empty, and ideas? The pic with the shiny spring was something i added that i though would allow it to reset. It kind of works wut like i said the pan really dosent want to flip the right way, as well as the spring is fairly stiff!

The only thing that looks modded here is maybe that piece welded near the catch, but to me it has original paint and appears to need to be there as part of the original design. Any one see anything off or have any ideas for me on how to trip and reset this thing? I can get more pics of things if needed.

Anybody even heard or seen these?
Anybody have one?
Called Massey and got a parts diagram, nothing is availible anymore is the bad news, good news is that mines all there, more bad news is the spring is shot. After using it yesterday and freeing things up more it tips but needs a good bit of weight in the front. The new spring i put wont work cause that lever needs to keep on going foward as it follows the ark in the frame and that spring will not allow it to.

I could be wrong, but the trip bar looks very worn out and bent in several places. It also looks like it been pulled hard a few times it's twisted forward a little and now it is causing it to be falling forward more. you could try bending it back, but the strength is gone so it might make it worse. You could try a local welding shop that can bend you a new peice.

I thought that where you put the spring is supposed to have a rope connected to it going to the operator seat for dumping without leaving the seat?

Yea your correct about a rope being there. i have been using a strap only at the time of dumping till i got it squared away. The rope thing i got figured out. The bar is supposed to have all those bends in it. i dont see anything that looks bent other than the original spring in the system, which is no longer made.

I dont think you looking at it right. I am not referring to the loop up part or the angled part. If you look at the rod pretending looking for a crown in lumber in between the loop up part, you will see what i mean. The angled part for the pull lever looks like its been pulled one too many time forward and needs to be twisted back a little. just MHO.

i see what you mean, i thought you were talking about where the catch is on the rod. I see in the pic that it looks bent on the horizontal part. Im not sure if thats a optical illusion in the pic, i will have to go sheck when i get home. As far a s the pull lever it looks that way but if you bend back away from the tractor that would make the original spring looser, to tighten the original spring up the lever would have to go toward the back of my tractor, thats the way its under tension. Yesterday i was working and oiling the hindges which i think i will take apart today and get the rust out and smear grease in there and put back togeather. The thing works with weight in it, it just wound reset, right because that spring dosent apply enough reaward pressure on the rod to allow it to fall back in the notch on the arc. The rod also will slide to the left and right in the mounts on it so if its bent its not so much to bind it in its mouting holes.

Looked yesterday, the bar is slightly bent your right, but still mores pretty freely? i greased the bar and took the hindges apart, (basically ball and socket joints) There is a big steel ball/knob on each side of the bucket that is sandwitched inbetween the two ears on the frame, i took the screws out and cleaned and regreased everything and it rotates much easier now. the bar went into place like it needed a few times, Unless i can heat the bar and bend it straighter i think i may keep the rope but hook up a ridgid rod to help reset it from the seat if it does not cooperate.

Clemson,
I do not think that I would change the latch mechanism to the KK design. If I were you, and I am not, I would play with the mechanism that is there until I got it working like new. A little rust in the scoop pivot will really slow the movement down and that will inhibit the latching. Clean and oil the scoop pivots too until they operate very smoothly. That spring may be adequate yet.

MJ i took the ears off the scoop pivots and cleaned out all the dirt and put big dollops of greese in there it helped a lot, but after standing back looking at the scoop in the reverse position i noticec it looked a little "racked" or bent from years of digging, this would explain why i had to pry the pivots back in and pull them back togeather with the ears on the hinge. If pivits quite firmly, but will almost reset itself now. I may put the bottle jack into the frame to try and spread it to see if that helps? I also think i may weld a little tab in the arc area to help the bar to reset and catch more metal, but grind the top to a slope so when closing it will not catch.
