Independent versus semi-independent mid PTO

Hi,

I've been looking at the new L40's, as well as the Deere alternatives, and am wondering about something on the L3240/3540 tractors. Deere states their mid-PTO is independent. So you can run just the rear PTO, or just the Mid PTO.

Can this be done on the Grand L's? I'm trying to figure out if "Semi-independent" means rear, or mid, but not both. Or if it means you can run the rear alone, but to run the mid-PTO, you have to also run the rear PTO?

I was in the same situation and was told you could not run them like the JD machine. My dealer was not the most knowledgeable, so like you I did some research on this site. The rear spins when the mid is engaged. In most cases this probably is not much of a problem, unless you mow and have a pto powered impliment on the rear...or say use a front blower powered off the mid and have a sander on the rear. Ended up with JD but dont think this would have made much difference.

Hi,
I read that, and because if it, I asked at the dealer I drive by. They didn't have one with the Mid PTO, but they thought it was wrong.

That's why I asked here. Figured someone who owns an L40 might comment based on their experience. Having the back spin with nothing attached doesn't seem very safe to me.
