In my research I've heard of many more problems with the Jinma tractors as compared to the Japanese tractors like Yanmar. Anyone have any ideas on whether the 2006 line-up has improved quality and dependability long-term? I like the idea of a 'new' tractor but afraid of less than stellar reputation of Jinmas.

Not sure I agree with "all those jinma problems", but what is the long term reliability of tractors, that haven't landed or just landed on our shores is??? If someone gives an answer, will you believe it?

As far as improvements, history has shown it has been evolutionary, not revolutionary. From what I've seen, I wouldn't characterize it as model years. The chinese seem to make these changes as they go along, not plan for a specific release. I would expect a few quality improvements and some additional tractor options, based on numerous dealer feedback to the factory. From the "tone" I read in your post, I wouldn't bet on the incremental improvements, meeting your expectations. ie if your perception is they are that bad now, then the few improvements would not be that big of an improvement.

With the budget tractors they don't release model years in the same way that Ford, GM or even John Deere does.

This can be both good and bad. Every shipment more or less seems to be better than the last.

This is good in a sense that you don't have wait a year for them to fix a minor problem. If John Deere decided that their seat cushions need more foam, you probably won't see the change until the next year. This is partly because their production is done in runs. But if Jinma decided that the seat needed more foam, they would do this on the next batch.

I have to agree with JohnS and crazymike. Buying a Jinma would not be good for you.

I have a Jinma 354LE and I had 3 John Deere tractors one of them was a 1070 (Yanmar) the Yanmar was the biggest piece of junk I had ever owned, three times the cost of my Jinma and it spent more time in my building apart than working. I would hate to see how much time it spent apart if it had a FEL and backhoe like my Jinma has. Glad I sold it, but lost a lot of money in repairs and the fact I had to sell it cheap to dump it, because I won't sell a dead horse I told buyers the problems I had with it.
The other 2 JD's are from the 50's and good tractors for what they are. Yanmar tractors have to much aluminum and very little cast iron, not strong at all.
For my money I would buy Jinma over a Yanmar any day.
