I spotted these deep in the woods this Sunday. Can't imagine they wood be anything other than a wild turkey. I've never come across eggs like this, right out in the open.
They were on a high spot in a sort of scrubby oak hammock, interspersed with pines, very little undergrowth. The aggs were almost spherical, not egg shaped.
I heard a gobbler calling several times not long afterwards. Seemed to me it was awfully late for the gobbler to be calling :confused3:.
There were shell fragments near the nest as if it had been raided. The 4 eggs were still intact, although I did not touch them.

the pictures aren't the best...cellphone.

Must be an abandoned nest... Awfully late in the season...

Did NOT know they were round though...

Just me, but they look too small and round to be turkey -- maybe a big snapper? If the shell is a bit soft then for sure they are reptile. The turkeys on my place are already hatched -- saw them this past weekend:thumbsup:

I am also thinking that they are too small and too round for turkey. I have found turkey eggs on our land and they are larger than that.

I did not touch them so I don't know if they were pliable or not. Snake eggs I have found are elliptical in shape.
I did a little research and I found out that owls lay a round egg and we have a Burrowing owl native to these parts.
These eggs bear resemblance to images of owl eggs.
But they were not in a burrow....... and there are plenty of burrows to choose from, because there are lots of gopher tortoises about.

I always thought eggs were, by definition, egg-shaped... {RIMSHOT}

Most of the snakes around here are live birth -- egg laying snakes tend to live in warmer climes:eek:
This past weekend a big snapper laid her eggs in our garden and they do look a lot like your pictures and they are definately round. The turkey eggs I have found tend to look like a hens egg but about three times the size and creamier in colour -- any chance it is a gator?

Not Turkey, might be reptile, most reptile are more "round"...as a previous poster said, if they're "soft" then def reptile...
