So this is my first Mahindra, heck my first tractor (I spent a lot of time on Case backhoes 20 years ago), I made the best deal I could ($27,500 out the door),

but I didn't get a hat. WTH. I'll be back at the dealers come the 5th.

I dug about 50' of trench this afternoon, it is like learning to walk again since all I'd ever used was Case controls years ago. ugh.

I am really looking forward to racking up the hours on this thing.

Oh one question, pushing forward (with the backhoe) was almost impossible!? I had to use a piece of lath to push the pedal. Is that because of the HST?

More dumb questions to follow!

Depending on how well my outriggers are planted, I just drag the tractor forward or backwards using the bucket. Usually lift the outriggers a little, then lift up and push the rear of the tractor forward with the bucket... reset the outriggers, and have at it.... Mostly dig stumps though.... :)

The hst does make it tougher. I use a stick if I have to move it more than a foot or so.

Were you running a 580K/L?. As useful as they are, these modern compact tractor backhoe's are tinker toys compared to a real backhoe like the Case or a Cat.

Leave the HST in neutral to make it roll easier. Set your machine with the front bucket and outriggers to anchor for digging.

To get the most ground digging stability I lock my brake and dig in the bucket and set the stabilizers. The disadvantage is I have to move to the OP station to release the brake, and then move the tractor/hoe.
You may be getting less movement of the tractor because you have a lever engaged to send HST fluid to your hoe's hydraulics, IF your hoe shares the HST's fluid reservoir when the hoe is being used. I don't know, but that's how my Kioti works with it's subframe hoe.
No hat?! What a rip!

Older, more like 580C's and 580G's. I jumped ship into the tech/management side and haven't sat on one since the late 90's. They seemed much easier to learn than the wobble sticks.

Embarrassed to say I didn't have it in neutral. sigh. Learning curve.

I was actually not as disappointed as I thought I would be with the backhoe.

No worries, you will knock the rust off and have it down in no time! You probably know stuff that newer operators have never seen.

Yep, neutral is key to moving along with the hoe on an HST. If you try to lift the front end with the loader, you get the same sort of result, it acts like it struggles. Shift to neutral or give it a little forward pedal while raising it and it comes up off the ground without issue. It's not that it can't lift it, it can't drag the rear tires forward.

As for the hat, some dealers have hats they give with a purchase, but the actual "Mahindra Owner's Club" hats are supplied from the manufacturer and arrives in the mail after a couple weeks. At least that's how it worked a few years ago when I bought mine...

My dealer still owes me a hat too but in the meantime Mahindra sent me one when I registered on their website. I have a shuttle drive so can't answer you on the HST.

Yep, same for me back in 2011 when I bought mine. I got the owner's club hat in the mail from the manufacturer.
