Roland Lohnert first visited the United States in 1958 and thoroughly enjoyed his stay. So in the summer of ?9 he returned to the U.S. as a representative for Porsche Diesel tractors on the east coast. In February 1960 he was asked to help at New England Agriculture Equipment Expo in downtown Boston, MA. His job was to help move a new Super L308 up to the third floor ballroom of a hotel. A crane set the rear wheels on the fire escape and Roland backed the tractor in to the hotel. A week later, the removal procedure was the reverse of the entry and even scarier. Obviously OSHA was yet to be formed when this photograph was taken. Photograph courtesy of Roland Lohnert.

OSHA would have a big problem with that these days. I you look closely you'll notice that the tractor does not have ROPS and the operator is not using a seatbelt. :)

Good thing he's got the wheel weights, ballroom floors are notorious for traction problems!

Hmmmm.....

OK. I can kinda deal with the crane, the tractor and the guy on it. Sorta. Kinda. It would not be me.....

Placing the rear wheels on that fire escape? NADA. Nope. No way. Can't believe the fire escape handled the weight of the tractor.

Never knew that Porsche made tractors. A new Porsche tractor would really be cool. :D:D:D:D

What possible reason would anyone have for riding a tractor down like that except to have your picture taken while doing it? Elevator indeed!:D
