IH 574
I have a 1970's IH 574 farm tractor with loader. Our farm is non-operating and this is the one remaining tractor we've held on to (sold our Farmall M last year....hated to see it go). I use the tractor with bucket for property maintenance, and simply can't imagine living without it.

The hydraulics failed last evening - we lost pressure, the loader would not raise, after approximately 30 minutes of use. After shutting down for a couple of hours, and a good greasing, it had pressure again. I've noticed it's had less power than normal, and hesitates. I know it has hydraulic fluid (just filled fresh last week), but I can't remember where the filter is so that I can check that. Also, I seem to recall there is a secondary filter in the loader controls as well.

any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

OO.

Not sure where filter is but, if you have Quick Couplers, unhook them and rehook to see if that will take care of problem. Look for a round casting with a single bolt going through possibly underneath tractor. Follow hydraulic lines from loader valve with a letter "T", and see if that takes you to any thing like a spin on filter.

The filter is behind a cylindrical cover with a long bolt in the center. It sticks out of the transmission housing on the left side below where the shifter linkage is attached. Remove the panel by the parking brake lever (back of left foot rest) and you will see it better.

I own an IH 684 and the hydraulic filter is where Heywood described. I would add to try and clean around the filter housing real well before removing the cannister. Usually a lot of debri builds up in that area.
I am having issues with my hydraulic system also. After using for 30 minutes I tend to loose hydraulic pressure. I've been removing and cleaning a check valve that supposedly sticks when the hydraullics get hot. It is located on underside of the tractor opposite of the filter. There is a short bolt with a 1.25" head, a spring and the valve. I have been told that I need to polish this valve to remove any groves or rough areas.
