IH 3514 Steering problem

I am still not able to get loader/backhoe to steer properly. It steers marginally when I have the front wheels raised, but not at all when they are on the ground...which doesn't help me at all. I have located the knob on the right hand side of the seat, from info on this site, and it does not seems to do much in the way of transferring hydraulics from hoe to steering. I do lose some backhoe function when the knob is up (if I remember correctly). Is this valve the problem, or should I try to get the steering wheel off and check the box below. I am still in the process of getting the manuals so I don't know the correct names for everything. I just don't want to diagnose the problem by replacement. ie fix each part of the system until it works! Any suggestions are appreciated.

Just wondering if you've had any luck with your steering problem. Seems to me if you hold the knob up and the hoe still swings that knob (valve) is defective. Please post what you've learned.

Hooch, I have been searching for a parts manual on E-Bay. I am looking for the T-122 that covers the 3514 exclusively as opposed to the T-112 which covers the 3514 and the 3616. The short answer is yes I am still having the problem. I am trying to figure out if it's the valve to the right of the seat or the box below the steering wheel. I also don't have a wheel puller big enough to get the steering wheel off. Another part of the problem is the hoe is at our farm which is 40 miles away from where I stay in the city during the week for work, so I don't always make it down to work on it on the weekends. I will reply with my progress and thank you for your response.

You have to bleed the system. It's all hydraulic. There is a hydro pump on the steering wheel and it runs through a valve that controls hydraulic pressure to the steering cylinder. I am having problems with it myself. I have gotten it to steer but no power steering, I haven't been able to completely bleed the system so I don't know if that is why I can't get power steering.
