IH 254 Alternator/Regulator?

Need an external (electronic) regulator for my IH 254.
Alternator is Mitsu AH2035H.
Tried a VR166 with no luck.

Alternative would be a replacement alternator with internal regulator.

joe welcome to tbn one quick question your alternator should have a 4 prong plug where the regulator harness
plugs into check and make sure this harness has 4 wires going to the alternator alot of these alternators only used 2 wires 1 was ground the other was switch the vr166 is the most common regulator used on externally regulated alternator american made ford vehicles if it does have 4 wires post picture of your regulator we can get you one

Photos of alternator plug and my wiring of regulator to alternator are attached.
The original problem was high alternator output boiling the battery.
My attempts with VR166 regulator and original alternator have been unsuccessful.
I am beginning to think that a new alternator with internal regulator might be a better approach. That way I scrap the old alternator, regulator and wiring.

thanks for the pics the ford regulator will not work vr166 when i get to work tommorrow will see what was the o/e regulator by some chance do you have a hand held volt meter if so crank up tractor with regulator plug off alternator check output at "pos" spade should be rising to above 15 volts if so alternator is working do not run long as this will fry the alternator and post back

Mitch,
Voltage between alternator pin A and pin E is battery voltage only!
Expect that means alternator is fried?

Also, with regulator disconnected at alternator, connecting ground to (E), and connecting battery (B+) to field (F) results in no change to alternator output!

yes it should be charging pass the 15 volt possible rectifier or rotor do you know of any starter rebuild shops close to you might worth taking by for test and pricing if you can do this repost what they quote for the alternator sorry
