Kubota L4200
Help! Just got a 1995 Kubota L4200GST, 975 hours on the meter and an after-market loader. Tractor fired right up when I went to look at it. Loaded it on trailer, got home, started it, took it off trailer, played with loader as I had not used one before. Turned it off, turned it on, turned it off, and when I hit the key-nothing, no turning over, no starter engaging, no solenoid click-nothing. I thought the forward/reverse shuttle was pretty sloppy so I thought it might be the safety switch. Took old one out and it looked worn but ok but installed new one anyway- nothing. Two days later, I turned the key just for grins, and it starts right up. Today, I get some time in with the loader, and auger some holes for trellis posts, turn it off, and when I turn the key to start it again-nothing. Not even a click. So, what's the best trouble shooting idea? Possibly the ignition switch itself?

Thanks

Something is loose or a safety switch is not connecting.

Pretty sure it's not the shuttle safety switch. I replaced it and it seems to be connecting ok. What other safety switches are there?

Seat switch brake. You have a complete dead machine?

When I turn the key to 'on', the glow plug cycles, and two other dash lights come on. When I turn the key to 'start', the dash lights dim and NOTHING else happens. I don't think mine has a seat safety switch. Believe they started putting those in after mine was built.

Many tractors will not start if not in NEUTRAL. Are you sure you had it out of ALL gears while trying to start it?

Well lets start at the Battery. Get out the Multi Meter and read Voltage. Then read volts while starting.

Yes check your grounds and cables along with the battery

Check ground at frame for negative battery cable. Check each battery post and make sure they are clean and tight with no corrosion. Have someone else wiggle the negative ground cable while you turn key to crank. Verify voltage at battery before and while engine is cranking and when running.
Report back results.

Check that PTO is not engaged.
