How do I adjust the low idle speed on my 1541 Cadet. It will not idle down to the speed that it use to idle at.

Thanks for the response back. It is a 15 hp Kohler engine. I had someone do some work on transmission and starter and when I started it after he dropped it off it would not idle as slow as it used to. I figured it was just an easy adjustment that I could figure out, but couldn't find any way to slow the idle down to what it used to be.

Not sure on yours.... but should be right off the carb. .... or the cable to the carb.
Coincidently.... I have the same problem on mine... I bought it used, and it was never used much.... now I run it for 4 hr's straight, doing 3 acres of hilly land.
Now the idle is too high, I believe because all carb jets are now clear, and it was set high to keep it running.
But on my Command V-twin .... I must remove a plate over the carb , which
mounts the air filter, and then there is a L shaped crankcase vent hose,
in there......all in all .... a real hassle..... a major job just to change the idle speed. I' guessing for EPA reasons .... they did not want you messing
with the idle speed.

Thanks for the reply, I will take another look at it and see what I can come up with.

idle adjustment is right next to where the carb bolts to the manifold. other two are for high and idle mixture. adjust when engine is warmed up.

Air leaks will also do that. Check that the intake manifold gasket and carb gasket are good. Spray a little WD40 around the joints, while the engine is running, will often affect the idle and signify a leaking condition. Look for any leaky hoses or missing caps between the butterfly shaft of the carb and the engine. Air entering between the butterfly shaft and engine in any manner is not controlled and causes erratic idle. And just for information, a open hole between the butterfly shaft and the air cleaner will not affect the idle but will allow dirt into the engine because it is unfiltered air.
