This summer I replaced all of the old 5/4 pressure treated decking on a 20 year old deck. The framework/joists were all in fine shape but the decking had some bad spots and the grain was raised pretty good plus had some old stain on them that wasn't too attractive so I replaced them all with Lowe's lower priced composite decking. Shop ChoiceDek Foundations Beach House Gray Composite Decking (Common: 1-in x 5.5-in x 16-ft; Actual: 1-in x 5.4-in x 16-ft) at Lowes.com
Last night and most of the day today we've had snow with some freezing drizzle. After snow removal we've now got a skim of ice on the deck. So my wife just asked if the calcium chloride beads that I normally use to melt ice out in the driveway would hurt the decking. I told her that was a perfectly good question that I didn't have an answer for. Any opinions or experiences here?
