I was tempting fate

I was tempting fate Saturday when I got a rain guage at the hardware store. But fate smiled on me and we got the first real rain in almost a month. YAHOO. We got a 1/4 inch more Sunday and it has been looking like it may rain all day Monday. I may be crazy but the grass looks greener to me. How do you guys use your rain guages? Do you measure at a set time of day, do you keep a record or do you check it when you check it and dump it out?

I usualy check & dump mine on the way to the truck in the morning. 1.7" last night & we really needed it.

I make it rain by watering 55 Blue Spruce trees I planted this year. After 4 hours of watering (trees spaced every 20 feet) it rains in the next few days.

I look and dump. It is only an estimate.

Man! if I knew how well these things work I would have got one a month ago. Tuesday afternoon and it is raining again. Yeah. I may not be smiling if I have to pump the basement out next week.
