Well, I was looking around on YouTube, and this came up. Try and spot how many bits of bad advice he gives. Things like "insert a rod into the electrode holder, then plug in the power cord"

Didn't even have to play it to spot the first one. Harbor freight 80 amp arc welder...

The part that really got me was when he said that when you stick a rod, turn off the inverter, unplug it, and remove the rod from the electrode holder. I think the stinger would have melted off, or the welder poured out smoke before you could shut it off. I have only ever had one rod stick so bad I couldn't twist it off...... And that just took a 1/4 turn of the shortstub and a little tap.

Two things I thought were funny (other than what you already mentioned)

1. Start with it in mid range?? I'd try to start at the appropriate heat for the material being welded and rod size I was using. Not in the middle everytime and have to adjust.

2. In the end when he said "powerful" welder:laughing:

Thanks for the laugh

Also notice no mention of using a welding helmet anywhere?

It's been a while, and I'm sure we have talked about it before, but it seems (by your signature) that you are quite a chainsaw guy. I am as well, 14 last count. Have you been on arboristsite before?
Hmmm, I seem to be hijacking my own thread.... LOL

Yes, I love dolmar saws:laughing:

Current count is 8 running and 2 parts saws. Dad also has 5 dolmars:thumbsup:

I dont like AS. I am a member there, but havent visited in quite some time. And when I do, it is usually to read some reviews on new models or models that I am unfamiliar with. Too much BS over there and overall, not at all friendly to newbies. TBN is WAY BETTER IMO.

What is your flavor of saws??

The Hijack continues, I just bought a Modified muffler off of E-bay for my 044 Stihl. Re-tuned the carb, 92 octane with no ethanol, Skip tooth chain. Turned her into a beast.. I cut 20+ cords of hard wood per year to heat my home and shop with an outdoor wood boiler. I seldom see the Dolmars but have read about them as one of the best industrial saws.

My favourite is pioneer. The old homelites and most pro stihls are nice too. Not much of a husky guy. Never ran a dolmar. I much prefer old saws. I have a few from the mid 1950s. My newest good saw is a stihl 034. The little homelite super ez gets the most use for general yard work. Pioneer farmsaw and 034 for firewood. Old magnesium logging saws that are mainly shelf queens can be pulled out if I need a real long bar.

I quite like AS. I guess after weldingweb, it didn't seem too bad to start. Plus I didn't start off with the standard overasked newbie questions. I showed up having already done a number of full rebuilds and restorations. (And owning 11 saws) I spend more time there than on TBN. I find it very quiet here. AS on a slow day is still louder than here on a good day. (mind you, a lot of that noise is just noise)

It was definatally noisy. But it got carried away big time IMO. Too much begging for rep, and the guys that actually knew their stuff never really helped out. Always just a "use the search function". I can understand that if it is a question that was asked 100 times in the last month, but i for one dont like spending hours searching if someone can answer a simple question in 5 minutes.

And there just seem to be too many grudges over there. Certain "clicks" that didnt get along with others, etc.

And besides, I already waste way too much time on this forum. Thats why I have limited myself to TBN only. If I frequented other forums, I'd never get anything done :mur:

When I was just out of HS I heard about someone that went blind at welder training at Bath Iron Works. Someone in a welder training class left their flip up lens on their hood up. Claimed the instructor didn't tell them to put it down.
