I've got a PRD 7200, had it for ... maybe 10'ish years or more?
Does a nice job, only replaced a spindle once. Blades every couple years. I usually ran it behind our IH 444 which is long in the tooth and a bit tired. The mower would leave a LOT of clumps behind it. I always attributed that to the tractor not getting to full engine speed, therefore the PTO not getting to speed, therefore the blades not chopping/mulching enough.
True or not, I don't really know. Today, I use it behind a JD 4?? series, call it 40 HP but not sure. (my wife's cousins tractor, not mine).
I STILL get this non-mulching, or clumping/windrowing behind the mower and now I AM at PTO speed.
I compare the cut this mower gives me (which is still a nice cut I will say) and now, I usually cut this field with my JD 430 with a 60" mower.
This JD 430 with mower walks circles around the appearance the Woods leaves behind. What gets me is the Woods is a rear discharge so it has opportunity to spread things about. The JD is side discharge so it's going to tend to put 100% out the small exit (compared to the length of the Woods) yet, the JD STILL manages to leave a much more manicured look.
Call me perplexed.
I AM preparing this weekend to put new blades on the Woods and will probably try it again just to see difference with new blades.
I save time with the Woods because I'm going faster on tractor verses riding mower but for quality of cut, I lean towards the JD.
Because of that, I *personally* would pause and look at all options before being brand blind and buy the newer Woods (but then, maybe that's why it's updated....to help the finished cut???)
