Kubota B7610
I recently finished building a home and did as much of the work I could to save some cash. After it was all said & done, I figure I saved myself at least $5,000, just on the work I did using my Kubota B7610 & a couple of implements. I handled the backfill, driveway, site clean-up, finish grading, piped-off gutters, lawn seeding and landscaping. I think I paid around $16,000 for my set-up so I'm feeling pretty good to have been able to recoup some of my investment. :)

and that's just the beginning! I'm sure it's recoup will increase over time! :D

In Feb, I completed 11 months worth of contracting my own home. Quite an interesting undertaking. I recently purchased a BX 24 primarly because of the large amount of landscaping I have to do and ongoing yard maintenance. I could have used the tractor a lot while dealing with trash piles during construction and lifting / moving stuff like tile and lumber.

At this point I was more interested in saving my back than lots of money.

I am building too. and my L3400 has really helped.
Of course I am building on the side of a small mountain and driveway maintenance is a biggie.
Tonight I moved 25 heaping buckets of dirt in the carport for backfill, and I think I am about 1/4 to 1/3 done.

Tomorrow after work I am hoping to get a wood pile removed and get the dirt under it..

Maybe I should take some pics to send in...

anyway, I'm tired, and going to go to bed in a bit..

later,
Jim

I cleared several acres of planted pines (6 years old), stumps and brush from in front of my cabin. Then eshaped the hillside and smoothed out a gulley so that now I have a view all the way down to the pond. The upper part is now 'lawn', the middle part on the downslope (which can't be seen from the cabin) is just weeds that I keep mowed down and the lower 'terrace' just above the pond is planted for wildlife.

I imagine that getting this hillside prepped that well would have cost a couple of thousand if I'd hired it out.

I hear you, but you don't actually have to DO anything to justify buying your Kubota. All you have to do is convince the wife that it will pay for itself in 3-4 years, and she will bo OK with it. All you have to do is talk about using it, or just use it minimally. I get away with knocking down a few dirt hills, mowing once in a while, and keeping it washed. At least I think I'm getting away with it. ;)

Thats the key right there. Getting a return on your investment. Once you have it paid off, as they say... "its all gravy after that"

I figure at 1075 hours my BX23 has paid for its self at least twice.

So I took the extra money and bought 2 BX1500s.

AT this point I'd say The BX23 has now paid for all 3 tractors.

We built a home this winter and could not have succeeded without our 2350. Given the amount of snowfall, and that commercial removal could not be found, I'm sure we would have experienced significant delays. I still have a lot of topsoil to spread, gravel and interlock work to do so I think the 'bota has and will earn its keep :)

I built my home myself with my brother and wife's help four years ago. It's on sloping hillside. 5 acres with slopes, ditches, surface rocks, steep hills and trees, retaining wall terraces and boulders. Lots of rock and some are hugh. I had a couple of different people do the heavy excavation and hugh bolder size rock moving for me. Some they lined a slope with, some they buried and some I had them move to different locations. I bought my first ever tractor, a BX2200 with FEL and MMM. It did so much I traded it for a B7800 FEL, 6' RFM, boxblade, landscape rake, fergueson reseeder, front forks, teeth for bucket, fertilize spreader and tiller. Traded the B7800 after 3 years to a L3240HST. Sold tiller since I never used it for myself, only for others and traded the bucket teeth since they fit the BX bucket which I traded. I believe I have saved money by doing it myself but don't have it documented. But besides the money, I didn't and still don't have to wait on someone to come do work for me at their schedule plus I get it done the way I want it and if it doesn't suit me I can redo it without having to think of the extra cost to change something I've already paid someone else to do. The availability of my own equipment and my own tools is worth thousands to me. The cost for someone to mow my property would pay for my equipment and hired mowers won't return to a property like mine after they do it once and see how long it takes to do. They just never return. I found out these Kubotas are tractors that mow also. They are not mowers starting at the BX series. Mowers for just mowing are probably cheaper but again these are tractors.
