My dealer recieved his first M59 last week, with no back hoe. So I drove there and gave it a good look over. WOW! This is a very, very, nice machine. The best way to describe it is it's an L39 on steroids! It's almost an EXACT copy of the L39 with a few differences.

The front axle looks to be the same size as the one on my M7040HD, just not as wide. Very heavy duty and strong looking. The front tires are not as wide as my R4's on my M7040.

The only thing I don't like is the tractor uses the same spur gear rear axle as the L39. Bigger, but the same design. Now it's not that I have a problem with the spur gear rear axle design, it's just that the lower bars for the three point hitch are attached to the tractor via a pin that is mounted to the rear axle housing casting.

Last year I backed into a stump that I did not see with the right rear of my box blade on my old L39 and broke off the piece of casting that holds the pin. $1,500.00 later my dealer repaired the problem. If the axle was a planatary design like the L48, or my M7040, the lower bars would be attached to the rear axle via a pin that is welded to a heavy steel plate bolted to the bottom of the rear axle housing. If you break the pin off, all you have to do is remove the plate and weld a new pin on the plate, or reweld the original pin back on the plate. Worse case senario you would have to buy a new mounting plate. But none of the options would cost $1,500.00!

Other wise the tractor should be a home run for Kubota.

Glad to see you liked it. Sold my L3830 and bx 24 (both of which I Liked)
and ordered a M59.

What will you be using it for?

ya sat on one 2 week ago. expected more. liked some things like the front lift ratios and backhoe/arm ratio's,power. The standard thumb mounts cool beats having to weld it on. i guess i was expecting more. still in luv with my L48. I really like the front console over the side console and speed is not an issue even when driving 10 miles on the road. not sure about the size and weight of the 59,seems a bit to big. but hey thats me. all in all the 59's a dandy machine.

I will be using to up keep about 1500 feet of gravel driveway up and parking lots. it is on a steep grade so washes out every now and then. several thousand feet of dithes that need cleaned out regular. about 33 acres total mostly hillside though and also have some rental properties I take care of and also bush hogg. I know probably overkill and loved the 3830 with 509 bradco but their were times I sure wished I had more lifting or digging power.

In a previous post I had made note of the frame design of the M59 and how I too identified the potential serious problems breaking the pin mount for the 3pt. hitch arms. Why the heck would they attach it to a cast axel-rear end peice and not the frame???? I break pins in that spot with my L48s all the time, luckily just the pin. I would not want to imagine the M59 breaking the cast rear end peice attaching the arms. For one thing, it would shut the machine down asap with serious loss of fluid. But hey, since Kubota is making the M59 with OPTIONAL 3pt, maybe they aren't expecting many repairs!!!! Nice machine, the one I sat on had turf tires, kinda weird. I did like the loader beefyness, did NOT like the thin metal hood, did not like the new frame design (anyone look under it and see the big peices of metal which attaches to the rear axel blocking all maintenece access?), liked the hoe,....and laughed at the optional hood protector!!!! Ah hahahahaha....they must have said "we built a monster with a sissy hood, quick, do something!!!". I look forward to driving one soon.

No, I don't think it will be over kill for your application. But, you might want to look at the L39 also. It's one **** of a tractor for it's size. With the GST transmission it has lot's of low end grunt (torque) and it's easy to up shift on the fly for transporting FEL loads.

Another thing about the new M59 I don't like is the 84" wide FEL bucket. The width will be fine for large areas, but you won't be able to manuver in tight residentual yards all that well.

I wish for two options for the M59. A 72" FEL bucket and a GST transmission option. Now I can already hear the HST fans screaming, but I really liked the GST transmission on my old L39. That little three banger could really work with all of the gear ratios available. The HST trans is too slow to up or down shift. You have to come to a stop, shift and then get back under way. The GST is like driving an automatic trans without a torque converter. Put the GST together with a torque converter and you would really have something.

As for Curtisfarmer, I'm not sure how you break off the pins all of the time. One time and spending $1,500.00 to fix it made me super hyper aware of how I use my box blade backing up! On my L39 the casting broke off and took the pin mount with it. I did not have any leaks, just a broke down useless tractor.

Now here's an idea for everyone, wait until Kubota starts giving big rebates on the L48 to git rid of remaining stock and scoop one up. I still think the L48 is a hard tractor to beat. It has been in production for a LONG time and is basically perfect as far as manufacturing problems are concerned. Yes it's geared a bit too low, but unless you are using it for a commercial production tractor, the L48 will most likely meet your needs and last you a life time! My M7040 is for sale and if it sells before Kubota runs out of L48's that is what I will be doing. Or back to a L39. We shall see.

I break the 3pt pins on the L48 primarily plowing and hitting things you cannot see as well as mowing many fields with a 6' mower, and installing gravel driveways with 7' grader blade. The L48 is heavy with loaded tires and I am lucky the design is superior to the M59 in this particular area. The pins are cheap, the links that come after market are cheap too as the original OEM Kubuta turn buckle is expensive. I have not seen the L39 attach point, hopefully as strong as the L48. My 2nd brand new 2008 L48 with 12 hours is tight and sweet, couldn't be happier. My friend just bought a L5740 with Woods BX80(?) and expects the same as L48. I didn't have the heart to tell him. 2 different classes, yet similiar prices and why people are not sold more TLBs I do not know. Get the L48s while you can as they are excellent value for the $.

I use my tractors for construction grading primarily. (House pads, roads, Etc)When I broke my one and only three point hitch pin on my old L39 I was going backwards making a cut with my box blade. I hit a stump on the right side corner of my box blade that was not visable. It bent the right side lower link arm like a pretzel and broke off the casting that holds the pin to the rear axle housing. I was just sick when I saw how much damage I had done. Once was enough!! Never again!

The three point lower attachment points on the L39 are the same as the M59. That's why I was so disapointed when I saw it. I would have thought Kubota would have used a HD planatary rear axle and three point mounting plate like is on the L48. My M7040 is set up like the L48.

I firmly believe the L48 will go down in Kubota history as one of the BEST tractors Kubota has and ever will make. Someone once said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I hope the M59 will not have problems and will be as good as the L48. On the surface it looks to be a good tractor. Only time will tell.

I know the L39 had three hydraulic pumps. The specs have shown how they were distributed (power-steering, FEL/BH, and boom-swing) and the pump-rate (gpm) for each. I haven't seen such a spec for the M59, but I'm assuming it is similar since it is a Construction TLB. So, my questions are:
  • How many hydraulic pumps does the M59 have?
  • How are they functionally distributed?
  • What pump-rate does each support?
The pump-rate on the L39 was a hair lower than what I'd like to see, so I have high-hopes for the M59.
