So earlier I elected to have these crates moved rather than destroyed, thinking they would come in handy as a shed or a playhouse. Well, these eyesores had to get moved again as the housewarming party is this Sunday. I was planning on destroying one of the three, then moving the other two about 150 yards back into the woods to where the tractor garage is.
The question was: how to do it with a BX-24 and nobody to help you.
I'm somewhat proud of the 2x4 support beam idea, especially because I was able to manipulate it by hand as I approached the crate to push the top up a little bit. That let me set the parking brake and get some chocks to hold the front end up so I could get under it with the toothbar. I then rocked it toward the tractor and used the impact driver to drive some screws through the 2x4 into the top edge of the crate. I was actually able to move this thing about 30 yards this way. Then I started to tip REALLY bad, and as some of you know, my tractor has been on its side before. I went down a short incline without too much problem, though the front of the crate did scrape the ground. But my trail is just too bumpy and narrow. Lifting it width wise would have been much easier. In fact, I did lift it width wise to move it enough so I could grab it length wise. The trail is just too narrow to haul it that way, however. It is a little hard to tell in the photos, but the whole thing is really in the air. I gave up and am going to sledgehammer the things tomorrow.
