I need some good degreaser

I recently bought a 1949 Dodge B1 dump truck. It runs great and I have redone all the brakes on it. Now it comes time to clean the grease off of it. This truck hasnt been licenced since 1966 and the grease is caked on !!!!!!!! I have used degreasers and the pressure washer and some is just too dried on. Anyone have any suggestions for a good effective degreaser? Also if anyone has a truck like this and can give me some insights on parts I would appreciated it .

Steam Cleaner. I bet the old, hard grease needs a little heat to soften it up. I would look for a heavy duty truck shop/wash rack and pay for a good steam cleaning. No mess in your shop and a really clean chassis for your truck.

Steam cleaner is a good idea. If you do that seal up wire connectors as best you can. Auto parts stores have some good degreaser. You might even try kerosene or diesel with a spray bottle and let it soak in. I did a Google search and found this stuff.

I agree with steam or hot high pressure wash.At home I,ve done the diesel fuel spray bottle way tooit just needs some soak time.After its soft a putty knife scraps it off in big chunks.1949,its my age!please post pics of that rig:thumbsupave

Go to wally world and pick up a gallon bottle of Castrol Super Clean. Usually you'll find it in automotive. It comes in a purple container, qt spray or gallon jug. as mentioned you'll have to let it soak and scrape off the chunks then hit it with a pressure washer. I havnt found anything this stuff wont clean.

Good Idea Ken! Although I get this mental picture of the guys rummaging around in the kitchen looking for Oven cleaner. The little woman walks up to him and ask Sweetly. "what are you looking for Honey?" And he says "I am looking for the oven cleaner sweety I am going to clean things up" Then she gets all excited that her man is going to clean the oven! Low and behold he is going to use it on that Tractor!

Years ago, we used it on tractor to prep them for painting. 2 Cans per tractor. We had a fellow that would paint a tractor for $100 and we furnish the material and prep the tractor. Heck of a deal. After seeing how toxic it is, I don't want it in my oven Ken Sweet

Thanks for all the ideas. I never thought of oven cleaner, I am using it on the frame and Im going to sandblast and repaint it so no worry of damaging paint. We were using truck today at work , I dont have it licensed yet drove it about 20 miles and hauled 7 loads of stone , it worked great even though it is a little ssllooww !!!!!!! LOL

Zep's Purple Cleaner also seems to cut oil and grease quite well. Works best after the majority of the crud is scrapped off, of course.
