My 1988 Model Homelite 245 is still running strong. And it's long life is not from lack of use - just a good machine barely maintained. The best part is it came free. My grandfather couldn't get it to start and took it to the local repair shop. They made it worse and suggested it was toast. I followed the carb tuning instructions in the manual (Duh) and it starts on the 3rd or 4th pull and runs till I shut it off or it runs out of gas.

Stretched three chains to extinction during Rita clean-up and have another about ready to go. Couldn't get 16" chains right after Rita so I bought a generic 20" bar (with chain) and adapted that to fit. Ran like a watch.

My father in law just bought a Stihl. Loves it, but still glances at the old Homelite from time to time - it cleaned up his mess after the storm too. FEMA bought the Stihl for this hurricane season.
