Um? Is this the tractor therapy group???

Hi my name is rob.......

I'm moving in a couple of weeks from a flat grassy 1 acre to ~12 acreas of mixed cover with some hill to it...I maintain mechanical things myself and if I did a cylinder count bewtween all of my little fuel powered friends I would say it is roughly 30 - string trimmer through old land rover....teetering at the moment on 1/2 running......Anyhow the point (if there is one) is I like to (attempt to) maintain things myself. One of the reasons my wife and I moved our family was to justify needing a tractor (her words not mine) now its time to shop. I'm currently thinking basics would be 4WD, no cab, ROPS-able. Comments, useful or otherwise well recieved. geographically we're in the upper valley (Connecticut river Norwich/Hanover - VT/NH (those are states not manufacturers))

...quietly returning to seat and silently hoping for a "hi rob" from the group....gosh I hope this is the right place.....

Hi Rob!

I am by no means a tractor expert.

I came here to learn more about my John Deere 790 that I recently "inherited".

So far it's been a great tractor, it's got 4wd and ROPs. I can't imagine needing anything else right now.

I'm kind of like the guy who bought his first pickup truck and now can't figure out how he ever got along without it.

Surely there will be someone along soon who will have much more tractor knowlege than me that will help you out.

Sounds like you got it bad.

Welcome to Tractors Anonymous... I guess the first question is what's your budget? ...ball park price that's been approved by you know who?? ;) (and that will help the "tractor knowlege" guys when *they* get here).

I'll jump and say Hi Rob too. You are certainly at the right place and must say I love your path to a tractor. Give a a little more background about what you plan to use the tractor for, and the rest of us will do everything in our power to spend every penny you have. :D

plan to mow a few acres finish, a few more rough, haul some wood around maybe...maintain a dirt drive...ride around with a straw hat and long piece of grass in my mouth....Um? was that out loud????....

The budget is a roller coaster but I'm thinking around 10K....that may change....I'm systematically programming SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) that tractors are expensive and hold their value and yadda yadda yadda

I've gotten along with my ol' 9N for 20 years but I'm pickin' up a Minhindra 3215 HST in a couple of hours after searching for several weeks through several brands. Do a good due diligence search and don't be in a hurry. After a while you'll have a good understanding of what a tractor is all about and then you'll be able to correctly choose the right one for your needs and pocketbook.

Hi Rob, my name is IH3444, and I too am a tractorhaulic. I started young, erector sets, matchbox cars. Then to small metallic road building toys. Then to push mowers, progressed to riding lawn mowers, then to garden tractors, finally to bulldozers, backhoes, and dump trucks. :) Bought a NH TC48 several years ago, but am now looking at JD X495s......I believe there is no hope for me,:p and I will continue down this machinery addicted road till I leave this life. I feel your pain......:D

I can justify extra tractors to help hold my garage floor down.

I hear ya...If I work it right the ROPS won't fit in the garage and will therefore need to renovate/enlarge the garage....

I'm sorry, but that won't cut it .... you will NEED a barn to store tractor & implements ... a very large barn because implements breed when you leave them alone in the dark, and you always end up with more than you currently have room for.
