I might of found my dream trailer??

Well almost, My good friend Pierre call me today and asked if I was Interested in the trailer he found?
His description is, 25' deckover, 14K capacity in good looking condition.
I called the number and asked about it and we are going in the morning to look and probably buy it.. It should look like this? but I ain't holding my breath

If it does? its coming home with us

That's a nice trailer. Remember that the deck height is pretty tall on deckover models like this one. That tall deck can make loading interesting. You will want to have a pretty big truck to tow a trailer set up like the one in the picture. This design looks like it is pretty tongue-heavy so you will want a heavy duty truck with the hitch as close to the rear axle as possible.

We got it and it needs some TLC but we can handle it no problem, I am looking a paint job and some minor things like a break away switch and a electric tail lite coupler for the truck and a brake switch. What is a good brake switch for this. Here are some cellphone pictures

I cant see it very well, what type of hitch is it? 2 5/16 ? I have a trailer that I use alot with a latch that is a pain to get right. Im going to cut that hitch off and put on a "BULLDOG" clamshell style 2 5/16 ball this winter. Great looking trailer you bought, I like the ramp style and the dove tail. How wide is it? Mine is not a bed over and it is too narrow for my liking the front tires of my tractor are within an inch of the edge and the rears are on the edge. One day Im gonna have to put the tires closer together or buy a bigger trailer.

Its 8.5' wide and the coupler is 2 5/16 and works nice and easy and it bolts to the front of the frame and is adjustable up and down, maybe when J_J comes over again I may be able to ask him to bring his better camera.

What is a good brake switch for this.

I assume you're talking about the brake controller you mount in your truck. My first choice would probably be a Tekonsha (the Prodigy model is popular).

I second Bird's suggestion as to the Tenkosha, they are tops. If you don't have it you want to get a battery (about the size of a mid size motorcyle batt) installed on the trailer and a connector for the truck and trailer that has a charge line so the trailers battery is charged by the truck when connected. This is to power the break away brake setup.

I also second the comment regarding bulldog couplers. For a big rig like this you want a good bulldog coupler in 2 5/16 inch size. Accept nothing smaller even if you have to cut one off and replace it. Also in receiver hitches you want to shop for high capacity ball, and preferably solid draw bar not a light duty square tube type. You want stuff rated at 10,000 lbs (or more if you can find it.)

I have a 14,000 lb Class V hitch adapted down to a 2 inch drawbar capacity and it will never have a problem with anything I could conceievably want to tow. When it comes to hitches and balls, scrimping to save a couple bucks is a bad idea.

For everyone who will brag about how light duty of junk they got by with there are some folks remaining silent who could tell a tale of horror. Ignore the vocal braggards and err on the side of your personal safety and success as well as reducing your liability regarding endangering other folks on the road.

Thank you all very much, I feel I bought a great trailer and it just needs a few minor items, I expect that, I bought a used not new trailer. The brake controller I am looking at is this one in northerntool

and I also need a break-away kit, battery and switch and some tail lites and a good coat of black paint and I will post pictures when done.

Mr, J; check out that trailer a little closer, I can't see it very well but in the picture of the tounge look right in the 'V' that black box looks like it could be your "break-away switch. Nice trailer anyway.
