Not long ago there was a thread talking about most of the tractor ads out there featuring shiny tractors (not a spec on the showroom clean tires even) with neatly dressed young sub-suburbanite 'men' (nancy boys) and women hauling potted plants around with their tiny little SCUTs on manicured estate lawns.

Then there's the Mahindra ads, like the one on the TBN home page. They show real looking people with big dirty tractors doing the kind of things you'd expect a tractor to do...and more. The current one shows her pushing a tree over! I can't believe that got past the corporate lawyers! But I think its great.

I've also heard that Mahindras are heavy, beefy tractors. That might just mean crude engineering or over engineering, but I like their style and attitude. I like to think I'm not susceptable to silly ad campaigns, but this one is on the right track in my opinion.

George I agree with you about the commercials. I don't want to see shiny paint. Give me dirt, heck mine wasn't home 10 minutes and it was in the manure pile.
Heavy and beefy is not the word for it. I have a 4530, It is basically a 45 horse tractor that weighs in at 5720 pounds, without the FEL on it. Crude or over engineering are not the case. Just one heck of a well built tractor. A couple of the things that drew me to Mahindra, all metal, no plastic at all, and no electronics. Just an out and out tractor at a very good price.
As far as the ad campaign being silly, I do not believe that is what they are doing. The company is out to show people what these things are capable of and believe me they are capable of quite alot.

I am a bit confused about the corporate lawyers. What would they have to do with pushing a tree ober, unless they have a Mahindra, ofcourse?

They should have included the standard line that this was done by a professional on a closed course.

I thought that too - then I though maybe Keith was one of those lawyer types... and was gonna start crusading for tree rights...

That's not what I meant to say. I didn't mean this ad campaign specifically, I just mean ad campaigns in general...most of which seem silly.

Lawyers typically review commercial material and come up with the fine print to relieve them of all responsibility of lawsuits when some dufuss kills himself pushing a tree over. And I personally think using a CUT or a utility tractor to push over trees is inherently dangerous and not what the machine is made for. I think it is extremely hard on the machine too. (I know because I've done it, a lot, with my little 45 hp Kubota. It IS dangerous and it IS hard on the tractor and it IS NOT what the tractor was made for. But man it works and I'll keep doing it.)

My point is that Mahindra is going out on a limb to show people the real kinds of things you can do with a tractor. Good for them.

I agree but have you ever really looked at a Mahindra. The things are built like battle tanks. I know of at least one guy uo here in Maine that has his set up as a skidder.

What? No seat belt, or hard hat in use! This is not a good demonstration of safe use of a tractor - especially when pushing over trees. The producer of the commercial screwed up in that department.
