WOW! I just stopped into the dealer, because I was driving by, to get filters and Hydro for my TC40.............$77 for each 5 gallon of hydro, engine filter $19, fuel filter $10, Hydraulic filter $59, and hydro filter $36 total with tax $298.86, :eek:definitely going back to NAPA! That was ridiculous.

Lloyd, Napa is too high priced, find the same Wix filter and buy it online or at the parts store.
You are out of warranty so other than for convenience, those parts have been marked up too many times
before you get them.

This isn't going to make you feel any better, but those prices aren't out of line for what I paid for my Kubota. One of the hydraulic filters was seventy bucks. :confused2:

Have them change the oil and filter John deere will for 3 hours at $80.00 per hour.
and find some other parts that may need replacing.

lloyd, for what it is worth, please let me make a suggestion. I would go back to the NH dealer and buy at least the fuel filter and HST filter from them. I hear of so many people having trouble with fuel filters that I would think you want to be sure the proper filter is always used. $10 is not a huge premium for that filter. The NH HST filter is a rugged filter designed to take the charge pump pressure and not blow out. Recently somebody was posting about a NAPA or WIX filter that leaked. I will never use anything but the NH HST filter on my tractor. The $19 engine filter and the $59 hydraulic filter sound pretty high, but the hydraulic filter is replaced only once in a couple of years or more. That's not a huge amount and you'll save maybe $20 at most by buying NAPA, maybe less. The engine filter is the one I have the least problem with using a 3rd party filter.

You can use the Tractor Supply Company "Premium Transmission Fluid" instead of the NH Multi-G 134. I do not suggest using anything less than the premium fluid at $40 per 5 gallon pail. Even when you save by buying filters/fluids at NAPA or other source, it is still a very expensive proposition to change all fluids and filters. You'll end up spending well over $200 any way you go. Still, it's a drop in the bucket compared to what that tractor is worth. I don't think there is ever any wasted money spent on regularly scheduled maintenance.

What jinman said is correct...
Maintenance is expensive...
I find it more convenient to just go to the dealer and pay for their filters...
I do buy fluids at Tractor Supply though and do save some considerable coin...

I was going to go to tractor supply but that would have meant I would have to get across 4 lanes of traffic with no traffic light! I thought it would be closer to 200-240 not 300. Maintenance is cheaper than parts, I do know that, I guess it was more of sticker shock!

Tractor supply ALWAYS beats everyone else on Hydro fluid. On sale for less than $30 for 5gal! On a leaking Bobcat, this is a MUST for me.. Working my way thru the original lines I get a MUCH better deal having the local supply shop Custom make new lines than from the dealer. I just replaced the Hydro filter and housing with a unit from Northern Tool. Half price of original filter! As for oil filters, EBAY is the buyers market. I just received 4 in a lot for my Motorcycle for about what the dealer wanted for 1!! Also DON'T FORGET THE AIR-FILTER!!!! Again Ebay is my Favorite!
I would be more inclined to go to the dealer ONLY if the machine is still under warranty.

Lloyd, we all go into a mini-stroke when we first hear those prices, but you will never be making a bad decision to stick with NH products. It will assure you of a minimum standard. It may not be the most economic decision, but it is far from a bad decision.

OEM hydraulic filters are most expensive, but they are of a known quality, and specked to the tractor's hydro system pressures, etc. When you break down the price by number of hours in use and overall cost of your tractor, it's nothing compared to a major system repair.
BTW, motorcycle filters are a totally different breed than a tractor hydraulic filter, so a three for one off the internet isn't a real surprise for a bike oil filter.
Tractor Supply hydro fluids are a good buy for 5 gallons.
You could save time in driving frustration by ordering filters online. I try to keep a spare of each in case of damage by sticks, or other tractor like gremlins. YMMV.

In my opinion NAPA products are quality products. There is a huge markup on filters and fluids. You can negotiate to get the Military (if eligible) or Fleet discount. I save 30-50% on everything now at NAPA. I have been with them for over 50 years.
