I need to bury a wire in my yard. The run is about 100'. I don't want to make a mess of the yard\lawn. I looked at this video: Bury 1ft of wire 1in deep in 1 minutes without any mess. - YouTube and while this would work, I don't think it is as easy as it looks. I don't know what type of ground is under my lawn, but I want to reach a good 10" depth if I can.

I thought about buying a subsoiler and modifying it to bury the wire, but it's going to dig up more than I want it to and would be messy.

If there was a way I could take the idea in that video using that shovel idea and attaching it to my fel or BH, I could cut the trench with that. I would obviously make the device wider, but it would make it a lot easier than doing it manually.

Any such idea here in stoney ground would be preposterous! Any commercial cable plow vibrates, which is a HUGE part of the success.

Can't you find someone with a walk behind plow that want to make a few bucks for twenty minutes work?

I don't know what you would consider "a mess". I have a single bottom mold board plow. I can remove the share and everything else. I end up with a single tooth shank that has a carbide tip. The manufacturer was really thinking - Pittsburg plow.

Anyhow - mounted on my Kubota M6040 I can easily cut an 8" deep cut. If I had to go to 10" - do the cut two times. The "cut" ends up about 1 1/2" wide and disrupts little else.

What is the purpose of the wire?

Go rent a trencher. Places like Homedepot rental and other equipment rental places have them to rent.

Second that ^^... What type of cable is this & what is it's purpose??

That tool would stand a chance where I live in CT.... Rocks... Rocks... Boulders...

I want to run a network cable, CAT6. I would probably run it in 1/2 PVC conduit for protection. I can buy direct burial CAT6 also which would be easier to bury than ussin conduit, but I would rather have the conduit protection. I can't say my ground is rocky underneath, it's more like clay I would guess from previous trenches I've dug. I've used the edge of my bucket to cut parts of the lawn out, but it will only penetrate a few inches.

For just 100 feet, I would rent a walk behind trencher and get it done. Then after filling and smoothing over the trench, toss some grass seed over the dirt and water it. You'll have new grass covering the ditch in no time and by next year, you won't even know the exact spot where the trench was dug. In five years you will need to dig into the ground for something else and cut the wire in half. That's Murphy's Law!!!

I could do that. I liked that shovel idea for some reason. This is more of a small project that doesn't need to be done, but something I would like to do.

you could rent a sod cutter, and use that to take up the grass in the path that you want, then when finished, just lay the sod back down, and you won't notice it was ever cut.. this is the most unobtrusive method to get the sod back quickly..
