Please help me when you post.

If it is necessary for you to use the word "here" in your post, please tell us where you are. Put it in your post or put it in your profile. It will be a big help to figuring out what you're talking about.

And one more thing. I have difficulty with posts that don't have paragraphs and punctuation. I like capitalization, too, and hope you use it, but really can get along without it. There is nothing worse, though, than trying to plow through a post that is 30 lines long with no punctuation or paragraphs.

Please help me understand your posts.

Pretty please?

Yep, I hear where you are coming from. I, on occasion, have commented, as gently as possible, on this topic when a post is particularly difficult. I have been called a member of the "grammar police" on more than one occasion.

You didn't even touch on my hot topic... good spelling.

I can handle the occasional finger slip, have done it myself, and understand that. However, some posters have a tough time with embedding nouns, verbs, punctuation, and capitals sufficient to promote facile reading. I, myself, seek to maintain a proper level of written communication skills and use them when posting.

I've come to view a poster's written presentation as an integral part of what they communicate about their ideas and themselves.

I also make an effort to use proper English when posting... I may slip once in a while, but mostly due to typing on my phone, from which most of my posts are made.

Is it really that hard to use punctuation properly?

I disagree, If you can make out what the person is typing that's all that matters. This is a forum not a language class. Some here are old farmers with not a lot of typing skills.

I have a bigger problem with posts that assume everyone else knows what the poster is talking about. We all use some common abbreviations for various implements and parts but those uncommon things get to be head scratchers. Also posters that use texting lingo are really doing a disservice. A lot of us do not text at all like me. This is not a 50 years ago military message drill where brevity was a time factor. Remember a picture is worth a lot of idle words. Amen on the posters location identity. That can help with understanding their problem.

There was a kid here, probably a couple years back now, that posted that he was looking for work. It was one sentence, no punctuation, and no capitalization. It was tough to read. I got jumped on for pointing out that grammar matters to employers. Though I commended him for thinking outside the box and asking here, I also pointed out that I would not have hired him. I'm mean that way.

I can put up with lousy writing.
Everyone has their own style.
Intentional or otherwise.
For forums, I've decided not to use paragraphs at all.
I think everyone should try it, at least once.
Each sentence on its own line, makes a separate point.
A point which the reader has time to ponder before moving to the next line of text.
I'll tell you what I don't like.
Someone posts a link with little or no indication what the link is about.
I won't click on it.
Ever.
