I have a 1990 Belarus 572. I repaired a hydraulic line and want to put oil back in it. Where is the hydraulic reservoir and what type of oil do I use.

1990 Belarus 572
I have a 1990 Belarus 572 I repaired a leaking hydraulic line. I’m looking for the hydraulic reservoir and what type of oil to put in it? Also how to check the level. There is a sight glass on the dash anyone know what this is for? I know nothing about this tractor just bought it.

This post is a few weeks old, but originally these tractors used motor oil for hydraulics. TSC Premium hydraulic fluid meets many manufacturers' specs. It will work and should also work well in colder temperatures. The tractor has only about a 5 gallon reservoir that sits to the rear of the engine underneath the dashboard pan. There is a dipstick in the top of it. The sight glass is probably a coil wire indicating switched current to a cup on top of the engine which ignites a flammable liquid to provide warm air to the intake manifold for winter starts. These were used on some older American tractors - I wouldn't use it...if it even works. Older Belarus tractors used glow plugs with a heavy coil wire that "lit up" when they were hot enough - don't think that's what you've got, tho.

These tractors were crude, electrics were terrible, brakes marginal, and hydraulic leaks abound. That said, they will start, run, and take a heck of a lot of abuse. But, you definitely need manuals and an intelligent mechanic. Parts are easily available.

Think of a Belarus as a mule with a bad attitude...and be careful.
