to start one of these. We own 100 acres of land that used to have cows and some fields on it, but have since been planting pines on it for the past 30-40 years. Currently, about 15-20 acres has some 15-20 year old pines and the remainder (minus some gums/oaks here and there) have about 5-7 year old pines.
Had the older pines thinned out and where they loaded the trailers was a clear area littered with debris leftover. A couple buddies and myself started piling up the larger logs/limbs and burning, but it was tedious work that seemed to go nowhere. Our plan was to hire out a guy with equipment to come in for a day or so and get it right, but during the process, we decided on buying a tractor and doing the work ourselves.
Finally decided on a used Massey Ferguson 1533 with 4 in 1 FEL that we found in Craigslist. Came with disc, boxblade and bushhog. After helping spread topsoil at my sister's/BIL's, we got the tractor out to the property late Saturday. Went out yesterday with a buddy and let him show me what the thing could do....that, and he has been operating equipment all his life and we were dodging rain all day. Anyways, first pic or two is from the very beginning. The rest were from yesterday. Not the best pics as the cam lens on my phone is pretty beat up, but I will get some more pics soon enough, hopefully. The ultimate plan for this little area is to get some apple trees there and move on to another project.
