What do you guys do so you can determine the oil level? Color the dipstick somehow?

I’ve felt the same way, just make sure you have good light. It’s pretty obvious when it’s wet. You can put it in and take it out as many times as you want, just touch it with your finger and then if your finger comes away wet you’ll get a better feel for what you’re looking for. If it’s dry you need to add.

Wipe the dipstick clean and then put it back in. When you pull it out to check the level lay the dipstick on a clean paper towel or similar. See where the wet mark is on the towel in relation to the full/add marks by rolling the dipstick instead of wiping…
Sometimes I put an ink line on the towel first and set the full mark at the ink line and roll the dipstick. See where the wet mark is in relation to the full line. It’s what I do 😉

I usually do like Robin does, quickly lay it on a pant leg or sleeve.
John Deere sells a dye (john deere hydraulic oil dye - mt3668) that you can add to make the oil more visible.
/edit - make that sold, it might not be available any more.

I had the same issue on my CK20. The clear fluid is difficult to see on the dipstick. I added some John Deere hydraulic oil dye, and now the fluid is a very visible red. If you add it, put a little down the dipstick tube because it will take a while to mix with the hydraulic fluid if you only put it in the main reservoir fill.

I purchased the dye from one of the online John Deere parts stores recently. It is readily available, but my local John Deere dealer acted like he had never heard of it.

Same here, he hadn't heard of it so I had to give him the part number MT3668
A little goes a long way as the jar is nearly empty, but I measured it out and it was 12ml.
I use it in my lawn tractor as well as my DK4510 and it does make it easier to see the level.

Has anyone added texture or something to their hydro dipsticks? Seems like it would help. I have one that has two lines stamped in it and that helps a lot, was thinking about doing a DIY to the other.
