I "beaded" tonight

I finally beaded tonight. I finished my Boy Scouts "Wood Badge" program, a leadership training. Between the initial course, and my ongoing work that came out of that training, i finally finished and got my beads. Whew! I'm better for it, and so is the Troop I volunteer in(sons Troop).

Congratulations, was an Assistant scout master for several years but never pursued the "Wood Badge"

Congratulations Robert. Your scouts will appreciate your training. You should be commended for going the extra mile to help those young men.

As an Eagle Scout and current Committee Chair of my son's Cub Scout Pack, I can really understand the value of what you've accomplished. :thumbsup:

I earned my Eagle in 1980 and went on to do other things. Since then, there seems to have been allot of changes. I don't have a clue what beeds are, or what they mean?

What I do know is that nothing is given to you in Scouting and everything that you wear on your uniform, you earn. Knowing that, congratulations!!!

Wood-Badge has been around for ages. It is an adult leader training, similar to advanced management siminars that are offered for business management. It consists of 6 days of training, and then you go away with 5 "tickets" to work on. Typically these are items that will help your Pack, Troop, or District while expanding your leadership and management skills.

It somewhat is related to old English military. When a soldier was abroad, they would get sent home when they finished thier assignment. Enlisted men though, had to ern thier ticket home.

In Woodbadge, you complete your initial training, but have to work your tickets in order to finish. Once done, you recieve a set of beads similar to ones found by Scout founder Baden-Powell when he was on military assignmeent in Africa.

Congratulations Robert!:thumbsup: I was in scouts but never achieved Eagle status. Those were some good and very formative years. I had an opportunity to assist my step-son in scouting but he really showed no interest. Looking back I wish I had taken him farther on and see if he would have taken to it. Anyway, good job!
