Given that it's a matter of personal preference, I would not try to win anyone over from Hydro, but I have to say that I personnaly LOVE the EHSS transmission - real smooth and easy to operate. Even the synchros are smooth enought o shift up through the gears on the fly - handy when you get on the highway and want to get somewhere quickly. (of course you don't need to work though all gears to get to 4th...)
Maybe the experts would weigh in on why larger HP machines are mostly gear trans...??...

gear transmissions are generally for ag work. they are basically bullet proof and can withstand years of heavy plowing, hay baling....things of that nature. gear driven tractors will less liley bog down under weight as a hydro tran will. the gear driven tranny tractor will always spin the tires while a hydros tires most of the time will not spin when traction is lost. i prefer gear transmissions to hydro simply because of the longevity, and the tractors i have owned that had it have been flawless. hydro's are good too, but i just prefer gear.

The reason I got out of the hydro and into the EHSS was due to the power loss and the constant transmission whine. I will not go back.. Love the power and stability of the gear with the ease of the shuttle.

When I 1st got the EHSS I wondered if I'd dislike the slight delay as the clutches went into action when you change direction. But now I have come to really appreciate the moment of time to work other controls and prepare for the action associated with the change in direction. Once you learn to NOT push in the clutch for direction change (or inching pedal as the case may be) then you really appreciate extra down time that your legs and feet get
Another nice thing about the EHSS is that you can pull into neutral quickly and not launch yourself over the seat
