Hydrostatic or Gear - Which is better?

I did another post this morning about when a gear tractor is better than a Hydro. It's on a thread by someone who was trying to figure out whether to get a M or L series.

You might want to add to that thread. List out the times gears are better than hydros. Think it's under Buying a Kubota.

Actually, Bill, there's very little you could say about California that isn't true. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

In fact, living in the San Francisco Bay Area, I am constantly reminded of those Star Trek episodes where they visit one of those massive space stations for a little R 'n' R. There's aliens from all over the galaxy milling around, but everybody takes it in stride. It's pretty much the same thing around here -- eventually you just take it for granted.

Word of warning for you, Mark -- if you're ever out this way, be very careful with phrases like "light in the loafers". Like I said, there's a real mix of lifestyles in this part of the country. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Oh, and congratulations to both Mark and Bird on your anniversaries. I guess I'm a newlywed around here 'cuz my wife and I celebrated our 14th just a couple of weeks ago. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

It'll be awhile I'm afraid. Got a lot going-on right now (not the least of which is that my JD4700 "SUPERBABY" is finally home, with some other nice toys /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif ).

I want to take time to give some meaning to the stats.
The front/rear weight distribution with different implement-combinations, ...longitudinal center-of-gravity shifts, relative effects of additional ballasting etc., are some of the related topics I'll offer some thoughts on.

Hopefully some useful conclusions can be reached for their own needs, by "general" tractor guys, ... and I'm looking to hear some feedback from the "detail-geeks" among us /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif .

If it ends-up taking me longer than I plan, I'll try to remember to give you a personal "heads-up" when I post it.

Gordon, I would respectfully disagree about one no longer being a newlywed because of a certain amount of time having gone by. IMHO, a newlywed is one who's honeymoon has yet to end. For some couples, the honeymoon ends before it gets started, and for others, it is still going strong after 50 or more years!!
