Kioti CK30
I have a 2005 CK30 with loader and have had a chronic problem with the hydrostatic drive upon start-up when cold. The drive will not engage immediately but working the peddle will eventually cause it to engage with a grinding noise. Once engaged and warmed up the drive works fine. I have noticed that if I work the front end loader, steering wheel, and 3 pt hitch, the drive works almost immediately. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Have you changed the fluid&filter(s),check manual to make sure you use the proper fluids.

I'd change the fluid & filters then refill with a good synthetic fluid.

There may be a mesh screen in the return line that is clogged too. Best thing is to change the fluid, filters and clean the screen. Clean the pan and inspect the fluid for metallic flecks. I would ask the dealer (or read the manual) to determine the correct fluid for your climate.

Is there any chance that the wrong fluid was added to the hydro system sump? I've heard of this when a well intentioned but poorly informed person has added gear oil to a hydro. The thick fluid can cause cavitation and that means permanent damage to the pump.

My 2011 CK 30 does the same thing. If I press the pedal as soon as it's running, I usually don't get anything. If I wait 10-15 secs, all is fine. I've never really considered this an issue, but I'll mention it to the dealer and see what he says.

My used 2006 CK30 does the exact same thing. I bought it in 2008 with 300 hrs on it, the dealer changed fluids and filters just before delivery.

Pretty typical for cold non-synthetic oil. Let it warm up a couple minutes, or go to a different oil.

Even in hot weather I have alway let my CK35 HST warm up for a minute or two. In cold weather I will let it run for a few minutes before using it, think that's the right thing to do. I have, out of curiosity, tried the HST right after starting it and it doesn't really want to move, that's why I warm it up so it works right, hate to think I could damage something trying to run it cold. As a bonus it gives me time to give the tractor a quick look over to make sure it is all there . :)

Doesn't matter what temp. it is outside, I warm the tractor up a few minutes before moving it (~5 if it's warm out or 10+ minutes for <40*) Does this happen if you've been working with the tractor and it's all warmed up or just the first start of the day?

Guys, read the freaking manual. You are always supposed to let these things warm up for a certain amount of time based on outside temp. It's not so much the temperature as it is fluid pressures accumulating in the drive sections of the HST trans. This isn't a Honda civic, you need to give the juices a minute to start flowing.
