Tractor
Kubota L245
My dad bought a tractor from a guy that we knew that was moving into an old persons home and didn't have a need for the tractor anymore. So my dad bought it. When we got it, it sat in our yard for about 8 months, then I kept telling my dad to teach me how to drive it since he bought it and it was just sitting there. So we fired it up and everything was working properly. We then started experiencing problems with raising the bucket and back grader. When we would raise it, it would constantly jerk up and slowly go up. Same with the back. We changed the fluids in it, and it started working properly again. Now the same thing is happening again, the bucket will jerk on its way up and make a loud rattling sound. What do you guys think this could be? the fluids are still fresh, we just changed them like 1 month ago. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated!

You might go ahead and cycle all the cyl's about 5 or more times through a full cycle to purge out any air.

Can you say that for a 19 year old to understand it? Haha sorry!

I am not sure if your are joking or not, so I will say it more plainly.

Operate the joystick full back and fwd until the lift arms are exercised fully. Then, operate the joystick left and right to tilt the bucket up and down. Then raise the 3pt up and let it down.

Operate those functions about 5 times and see if the operation of the hyd system smooths out.

Answer back with the results.

I am 19, so I am new to this stuff. The tractor has 2 levers for the front bucket, and 2 levers for the back attachment which is a thing that smoothes the ground over. You want me to raise and lower the bucket 5 times, tilt the bucket up and down 5 times, but what is the 3pt part?

There should be a lever by your seat to raise and lower the 3pt system. If there is an implement on the back, make it go up and down.

Thanks. Tried your reasoning and wasn't successful. It is still doing the same thing. Any other suggestions?

when you changed the fluids did you also drain the gear case oil? also did you clean the screen that is in the gear casing?
The gear and hydraulic fluid is 90 weight gear oil.

All oil was changed, one of the oils covers two oils if that makes sense. As for the screen I don't recall. I would assume we did but maybe we didn't. I will check it out tomorrow.
Could it be that we have a bad hydronic pump?

When running the tractor, the rattling noise is calm, nut noticeable, but when using the bucket and back, it's really loud. It's like it is trying to suck up hydraulic fluid but only gets little squirts of it.

Check for any suction leaks.

I think if you put a 3000 psi hyd gage in the system, you could understand what is happening.
