Just found the site, amazed at the help you guys give out! I am new to the site and just got my first tractor. I am new to hydraulics and am having trouble understanding what all is needed. I understand the pump and sump and control valves. Could some one please explain exactly what all is needed and how they are connected? I am wanting to add a front loader and am comfused... I dont wanna run out and get a pump and controls and next thing break a pump or hose. Please, any help would be appreciate very much. I am just wanting to install a basic loader with up/down and tilt. I am a welder so the metal and fab work is not an issue. But the hydraulic understanding is...Thank you guys very much.

Welcome to TBN. I suggest you look for posts by KennyD and JJ as they are knowledgeable on hydraulics.

I have been searching and will continue, amazing how much you can learn from these guys. I was just wondering what the basic components are besides pump, tank, hoses, ram, and controls... wanting to order, but kinda lost...

Recommend that you pose your question perhaps in a different way; there are many out there that are experts with just about every type/model and year tractor. Can you identify what type of tractor your trying to mount the certain FEL (make/model) to, that will help focus the masses.

Judging from you name, it sounds like you got a Ford 9N. If so, it would already have a hydraulic pump to operate the 3pt hitch.

Here' s a basic description of the hydraulic system on these vintage Ford tractors:

Hydraulic System

You would basically need to add a 2 spool joystick control valve and plumb it into the existing system. Something along these lines:

Surplus Center - 2 SPOOL COMPACT 10 GPM JOYSTICK CONTROL VALVE
