I've searched but can't find info on how to modify an old 7ft Oliver Sickle Mower so that the sickle bar can be moved up and down by hydraulic cylinder. I will post pics (as soon as it stops raining) of the mower. I'm thinking the cylinder would be attached where the holding rod (holding the bar up) is attached to the frame.

Next question, can I lop a foot off the bar & blade length?

Thanks, but the Link says, no search results.

If you look closely, you can see this mower has a "stick drive".

I typed in "sickle mower hydraulic lift". I got 71 hits. See what you get? I bought a Oliver very similar to that Sat and it has belt drive (no pitman). Nice Simple design and efficient.Ken Sweet

What about chopping off a foot of the bar & blade?

Maybe you can get a few ideas from the hydraulics on my Allis Chalmers 80T trail-type sicklebar mower (7 ft cutter bar). The ram moves a lever arrangement that pulls a cable attached to a lever arm on the sicklebar.

I'd consider welding a suitably sized lever arm onto the sicklebar like it's done on the 80T and attaching the hydraulic ram directly to this lever.

Good luck
