The steering controller ( J10500 Steering Hydraulic Pump, as Kubota calls it) is a pretty sophisticated hydraulic steering controller and mine was making a mess due to an oil leak at the input shaft seal up on top.
It's Eaton Orbitrol SK923 steering control unit, made by Sumitomo under a license agreement.
Kubota is not selling these Orbitrol parts at least for my mower anymore, or so I was told recently by a major Kubota dealer. Item 160 "Oil seal K3511-38140" is no longer available individually!
Not sure if the whole $90 seal kit K3511-38390 still is available or not?
The seal Item 160 has these markings: KCR BM 0087A MH 28.6 34.94 3.2 (these are the measurement in mm)
I was unable to find it individually but instead easily found a complete Eaton seal kit on the eBay by searching with the Sumitomo / Eaton Model No. RU051A080F1A SK923
It's a US vendor based in the Midwest and was very helpful and apparently are able to rebuild these units if needed.
I replaced only the "Dust Seal" Item 160 from their Eaton SK923 kit. The old seal had hardened up and also shrunken a little.
Left all other seals as is since they looked OK and it will be pretty easy to access & open up later if need be.
Word of caution: The controller has very tight tolerances and need to be handled carefully when opening up.
I have now found several shrunken oil seals in my 3600 hour F3060 which makes me wonder what has caused that?
I.E. By shrunken I mean some of them even had loose fit in their housing (or bore).
The oil looked pretty clean when I did the first hydro oil change.
It could be due to overheating, stretched change interval, poor seal materials or improper type of hydraulic oil usage by the previous owner - I don't think 3600 hours of use explains it?
