I have a log splitter with a John S. Barnes, Corp. two stage clock wise hydraulic pump. I got tired of working on the Briggs/Stratton engine everytime I wanted to use the splitter, so, I removed the Briggs, built a system to work off my PTO and I was ready to go. Problem, the PTO is clock wise and the pump is clock wise. I have purchased a reverse gear box, but I am really proud of my original design, so I am looking for help on the existing pump or finding another pump with a counter clock wise pump action with the same capacity of the existing pump. Problem there is I cannot find the specs on the existing pump. I figure most log splitters have the same pump specs, but no one has been able to help me. Does anyone out there know if the John S. Barnes pump can be converted to a counter clock wise - remove the impeller and turn it around or something like that or where I can find a counter clock wise pump. I have options, but I want to get some answers before I settle on a final decision.

A replacement pump will depend on what kind of pump you want to use.

Prince makes a PTO pump, and which model, is based on the available PTO HP.

If you use a high pressure single stage pump , you will have to go through a gear box to increase the speed.

This PTO pump needs about 18 HP to run it.

Surplus Center - 5.7 CU IN PRINCE HC-PTO-2A PTO PUMP 540 RPM

A two stage will require less HP to pump the same GPM/low pressure.

You could also go to HF and get a new engine.

John S. Barnes became Haldex Barnes and is located in Rockford, IL. Phone number is 815 398-4400. If you gear section widths they might be able to tell you the displacement of this and also if this pump can be modified to change the rotation.

Good Luck
