Hydraulic pump gone South

This has nothing to do with tractors but......

I have an old army surplus 3-yard dump trailer and the hydraulic pump has lifted it's last load.... Can anyone give me pointers as to where to get a replacement at a decent price? I could write a book about "What I don't know about hydraulics" so be gentle.. Okidokers?

Looking back at my post, I think it might be helpful to mention it has a 12-volt motor/pump... The devil's in the details huh?

Posting a pic would help. I suspect it's the Barnes/Haldex type. Try Surplus Center. They have lots of pictures.

More details about what it does to make you believe it is dead would be helpful.

In my case, I had a 12 v pump that didn't lift worth a darn... discovered by taking the tank loose from the electric pump that there is a FILTER there. It was all gooked up... cleaned it up and lift has worked dandy ever since. Am sure there are many things that could be a problem with a hydraulic lift pump, but this easy fix solved a vexing problem for me.

The motor won't run no matter how I hook it up.... I removed the motor and apparently it has had water inside may times... "gunked up" doesn't do it justice. I cleaned it up as best I could but it still 'ain't' running... I figured I'd say a "Hail Mary" over it and replace the entire unit.....

If you have a place that can rewind generators they probably can rewind that motor and new contacts get her going again, but you might be better getting a new pump motor like the new dump trailers use and up grade.

yup... just last night I found an individual that had a new pump/motor that will sell it to me for $150... I have decided to buy it and then see if I can get this one re-wound/repaired... I thank you and everyone for your kindness..

Dougster, sounds like you are on the right track! About 15 years ago there was a place in Taylor that rewound motors, generators, etc.... don't know if they are still in business, they had been there forever! Don't know the name of it anymore, either.. They were the only one I found when I was looking at the time.

$150.00 is a heck of a deal for a 12 volt electric hydraulic pump!! Without bothering to check I think they sell for around $400.00 at Surplus Center.
